Dead battery.. Need urgent help, please!

Just tried in this morning and the car starts straight away. With a good luck until the new battery arrives I won't have any problem and I dont feel any more miserable.
Thanks for all the input so far!

Once the battery arrives I keep you guys updated!

Thanks once again.

When you finish driving at the end of the day leave it running for an extra 5 minutes with everything off, its probably the impact of the heater, lights n wipers going on a weak battery.

Sure I'll do that!

The foam toolkit holder that surrounds the battery was made in two variants. The early version did not allow access to the 13mm hex bolts that clamp the battery into place, meaning you had to remove the rear boot panel in order to remove the foam in order to remove the battery clamp. Luckily, you have the later version of the toolkit foam, meaning you can access the 13mm bolts and change the battery without removing the foam.

Cheers,

Tom

If you are driving short distances I recommend to buy a battery charger and fully charge the battery from time to time.

I actually find one charger in my garage thanks for that to my brother. I also keeping a extension cable with me now. Just in case.

I've had one of those lithium power bank/jump starter dinkies which works really well, back when i had to replace my original battery a year ago, it became annoying when it wouldn't start if it was parked for more than a day. seemed to be problem with all the batteries i had to replace - it is fine as long as it's warm but if it sits for 24h+ it just doesn't have the oomph to turn it over anymore. new battery fixed it 3/3 times.

These (EDIT - The battery in the car) usually have a water fill hole and indicator as well - have a search for youtube, adding some water might help you get just that little bit extra lift out of it to keep you going... as battery is pretty tattered could probably do with tap water as it wont make much of an issue if it has a shortened lifespan due to impurities.

You will have to remove the sticker on the top of the battery to see if it has the filler screw in bungs, had a look in my tdi battery a few weeks ago and it needed water.

That battery is not only very old, but also lower capacity than is optimal for your car.at 70 Ah capacity. Fortunately the latest Varta E44 now offers 77 Ah, or you can step up to a heavier but higher capacity F19 at 85 Ah. Varta recommend the E44 for all A2s now.

I had no time to order the battery today that's going to be a tomorrow's job.

But as I checked out after deciding to get the E44 battery I got this massage:

Just would like to double check it if they are mistaken with this.
It says it would not fit in but I checked the dimensions and if I'm not wrong it should fit.

Any suggestion?

Thank you!

It'll definitely fit. I have the E44 battery in my A2.

Tayna simply haven't listed anything beyond MG and Mercedes Benz compatibility.

Good news it arrived yesterday. Will be fitting today as soon as I have time.

Is it just the a straight swap, right?
Unplug old one plug in new one?

Almost, you'll have to re-pair keyfob remote, radio code if not original and reset electric windows.

Yes, it's a straight swap.

Be aware that the sticker on the top of the battery warning that you should remove the vent plugs is somewhat misleading. You should only remove the vent plug at the end of the battery where you connect the venting tube, the other one definitely stays in place.

I plugged a gizmo containing a PP3 battery in my cigar lighter socket while doing the changeover to preserve the settings, worked very well.

Great thank you!
I just removed both of them when it's arrived. Now I will place the other one back.

Unfortunately I don't have any gizmo so I will re-pair the fob and I think I found the tread about restarting the electric windows.
The head unit is after market at this moment but will replace the original one once I put my hands on a good bluetooth kit.

Since the battery will be out I probably change the seat mine looks a bad and I have a TT MK1 steering wheel too.

Advice:- just do one job at a time so you know faults aren't related. eg. change battery, ensure everything works. The do steering wheel, even though it means disconnecting battery again...

Job done. New battery in and I also changed the seat and car starts well.

I'd like to do the steeringwheel as well..
Is there anything to look out when changing it or just put in in a straight position when wheels are also straight?

Did you cover the negative terminal with anything?

It seems the 2 plastic "cap" it came with not good so I just cut out some parts of the cap where the terminal cable run.
