Double-DIN dash?

I removed my dash several years ago to replace the G263 climate control sensor. Its a big job and so involved, the last thing on your mind is to take step by step pics and write a 'how to' guide. I suspect others who have done the job felt the same so, sorry, there is no comprehensive guide on the Forum.

Only special tool I can think of is the spline bit to remove the steering wheel, which is covered here - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?17471-Dashboard-removal&highlight=g263

I'd recommend you subscribe to Erwin (official on-line shop manual) and print off all the relevant sections on trim and dashboard removal - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?23034-wiring-diagram-schematic&p=178098#post178098

Hi craigyb And any other A2 members out there that know how to take a dash apart I am going to be taking a dash apart this weekend and could really do with a guide of some sort as to how to go about this whole process so if any one can help with a written guide that would be really helpful like a list of tools required ect I will not be doing this alone thankfully so hopfully this will be slightly easier in some aspect?

I wouldn't attempt the removal without a proper guide. To give you some head start searching, try to look for guide to remove the glove box. Thread that talks about steering wheel removal (and be careful with the steering angle sensor), which Spike has posted some helpful links. You'll need ring spanners for the passenger airbag as adjustable ones are not going to fit. You also need long reach right angle driver to undo the two bolts inside of the centre console (on the side of the glovebox). Disconnecting the sunlight sensor before removal is also a must. The turn signal relay box hidden behind the climate control panel also needs to be unplugged before the dash comes out.

some old pict of mine may help a little. What to expect

Tie a long piece of string around the sunlight sensor when you take it out... will make reassembly a lot easier...

have fun with that, it's not the correct manual.

Five screws, three inside (one under the cupholder), one hidden by the lower a-pillar trim.

If you're an amateur, I would strongly advise NOT doing this yourself, hop over to Sarge or similar. You need to take the wheel off, with airbag, requiring a XZ8 bit (multispline in English), and it's such a large job I haven't got around to attempting it (and I've done pretty much *everything* else).

Also: DO NOT turn the ignition keys without the clocks in!

That's not the way .... it is removable from the dash! Detach it first and make the connection later!

I would consider my "guide" is better than the workshop manual. Yes, a visit to "Sarge" would be the best way ... It is essential to dis-connect the battery before removal!

If you let me know when you two are doing it I might join in
I've done it too so might be of some help. Usually not, but there's always a slim possibility.

All going well we are doing it this Saturday, don't suppose you know how to take out the rear parking sensors in kit form and rear electric windows ? lol

sorry was busy with work yea my findings earlier was incorrect as I was at work just glanced cut and pasted and flicked the screen over and didn't get a proper look at it, noticed the vents and side panel that open don't exist on the a2 lol well Im flexible on the weekend side of things so sunday will be good for me as well. Thanks for that offer Tony would love to let you do the whole thing but I'm a bit limited on my budget.
