Chat How long ULEZ

They made the whole of our village a 20mph zone earlier in the year, including a long open stretch of road on the approach to the village. I can just maintain 20 in 3rd gear but it does not really like it. At 20 mph I feel I lose concentration and recon it is actually more dangerous.
it appears that Bath now has a large proportion of it's road limited to 20 mph including the main roads. OK in busy times 20 is the most you can do but the driving tends to be stop/start. In the evenings and Sundays it's frustrating and the car hates it. As you found, 20 often means 2nd gear. And again there are long stretches in the suburbs without any housing.

I have a wife who is getting mobility problems and public transport is not so easy and is much reduced in the evenings and Sunday.

I think the reason for 20 limit is to limit the injuries to pedestrians and to keep speeds below an actual 25-30, whereas a 30 limit means many are doing 35 or so. [I have seen mobile speed cameras in Bath, I expect they are making quite a lot of money now!]

More cynically, I think it's done to show us that "they" are doing their bit for greenness, air pollution accident rate, (tick as appropriate). "They" think we are fools.

just back from working overseas , First day of ULEZ for me .....Checked my A2 TDI's ULEZ status with TFL and just had this shock.....its apparently ULEZ compliant , but not LEZ compliant . :( £300 daily In ten days I would have spent more than the cars worth in charges !

Just waiting for TFL reply as I presume I need to pay ULEZ somehow , I dont want to pay LEZ for today. Dont think there is any contingency in their systems for resolving this straight away though. If its £300 for the charge can only imagine the fine will be astronomical

TDi is not compliant so it’s £12.50 a day. All the cameras near me have been cut down.
There was a case 2 weeks ago where TFL lost the LEZ charge over a case for £11k. It’s clearly stated by TfL cars are not part of LEZ. TFL are not the best and can be computer says no . Dispute it and you’ll win.

Yes knew TDI wasn't ULEZ compliant therefore I was ready to reluctantly pay £12.50 , not £300... Now I have or think I have three days to pay ULEZ not sure about LEZ. I dont want the hassle and inconvenience but seems like I will have no option . Calls to TFL today have fallen on deaf ears saying I need to email. Not likely to resolve before any fine is due or issued ... What a crazy place to drive , and cant pay when I am willing to reluctantly pay .

TFL have replied saying I need to provide 4 pages of Registration Document to prove its a car and compliance status. They already have the information thats its an Audi A2. Im not disputing the ULEZ only the LEZ requirement ! .Already wasted hours on phone today. May have to end up now going down the appeals / dispute route to get a resolution . Unnecessary cost and aggravation for everyone...

Great minds😂😂😂😂😂
The only great minds are on this forum👍

Michael Graham (Talk TV)…. investigated all of this ULEZ 12 months from startex…. he has found that today we have more pollution than 12 months ago😳

Seems they all need bigger wallets😱
would this be with people still working from home and now having to go back to the office. how do the figures compare with 2019 ?

Let them issue a PCN.
Then use the online process to make "representation" stating that the PCN is in error.
Mac.
My logic, in suggesting this is that the systems behind schemes like ULEZ are automated, not real people.
If you try direct contact, by phone, or email, there is no automated system to handle it, so the humans just trot out platitudes, (at best), constantly putting the onus on you, because there is no means in place that will allow them to override the automated process. So, you are best off letting the automated system do it's thing, and respond, when prompted, (by the PNC), where there is a process in place to handle your "representation"

I had a problem with a car that i put a registration number on from a coach which wasn't compliant, there records showed it was now an Audi A5 but it still had the £300 a day charge attached to the registration number, i had to send a copy of the log book to them via there website

You need to ask Graham🤓
However, whilst the rest or most of the world carries on regardless (think smoke in a goldfish bowl), the U.K. committed to a certain Pollution level by 2030 (you need to look this up) and that means, to satisfy that criteria they need to somehow reduce today’s level by 68%😳
They need/want car’s off the road to get anywhere near that level. Like I said previously, I have:

1. A2 petrol 1.4 euro4 (wife’s runabout)
2. A2 petrol 1.6 euro4 (now off road sorn)
3. Saab con 1.8t euro4 (will be sorn for winter)
4. Motorhome euro5 (sorn until required)
5. VW caddy euro5 (my work van)
6. Peugeot expert euro6 (my work van and very troublesome)
7. Triumph Stag (been garaged since 1992)

So when the green brigade hits the fan😳 or sooner, will get rid of:

No6, as it is troublesome
No3, as it is not used much
No1 & 2 due to emissions
Swap or update No4
Keep No5 as I have replaced 3 injectors this year (ouch😢) and gets a new turbo very soon

And that leaves No7, well…. starting next year…. will start the long road to recommissioning. At 37k miles, will keep it from garages (as it will be as good as new), no mot required, no tax required….. about time I got something free😂

That 68% reduction, is it in vehicle emissions, or overall, including power generation, industry etc?
Mac.

It is overall.
But do not miss the point. TfL wants the cash (the major has admitted to that) hence ULEZ, he wants traffic off the road so that TfL infrastructure is used, more profit…. win win for him. To hit industries will cost jobs so will not go down that route. The U.K. wanted to be No1 in reducing levels (which they will fail to reduce in timescales stated). I do not get the come in if you pay x whereas in Glasgow you will get a fine. Business in Glasgow is losing vast amounts of business whereas people are shopping/going elsewhere. London will always have people driving through and paying the charge. My business is not in Glasgow but I do not get the disparity.
Every authority has always hit smokers/drinkers and drivers…. what will they do when everyone stops?

You can get it registered as compliant, there’s a thread on the forum by Celsisone on how to do it.
Here's the link to that incredibly useful thread:

Getting your early Audi A2 ULEZ passed

We did this for our X-reg AUA petrol, and it worked like a charm! Would be madness not to do this in fact.

The main difference between Euro3 and Euro4 is actually NOx levels in the exhaust gas for petrols. The reduction in NOx is achieved by EGR which reduces the peak combustion temperatures in the chamber, which then reduces the NOx components that are produced.

This is the only reason for having EGR, and with remarkable foresight, the AUA engine was equipped with this system long before it was a requirement.

I really don't understand the issue with so called high emission cars, especially when you now have the busiest airport in the uk included in the zone. How is an Audi a2 that does 60+ mpg bracketed in the same category as a HGV lorry?
Another stealth tax by the elected puppets of our once Great Britain. These so-called politicians, that once they are in power, implement any policy that they see fit regardless of public opinion(the people who they are elected to represent).
Wales is now also a prime example of this, the blanket reduction in road speed from 30 mph to 20 mph policy has faced strong opposition. 61% of people independently polled from Wales are against this policy, say no more.
I wonder if air planes flying through or landing at Heathrow are now getting hit with this Tax as well??

The ultimate irony, for me, is that in order to reduce UK total emissions, which make up a tiny proportion of global emissions, we're being frog marched into EV ownership. While the transport industry is similarly going for EV buses, coaches, and service vehicles, and EV dustcarts are being bought by local authorities, (who can't meet their obligations, through lack of pennies).
Most of the EV cars are either built in China, or use Chinese raw material, while the vasty majority of EV buses, coaches, and dustcarts are manufactured in China, (some have bodywork added here though).
This increases the emmissions from Chinese industry, helping China to maintain their position as the clear global emissions leader.
Oh, a local, (to me), authority describes their recent purchase of three EV dustcarts as "an investment"
Other than a few classic cars, no vehicle purchase can be described as an investment!

I go back to my goldfish bowl, think Chernobyl….. did we not get covered in the aftermath 😳. All pollution travels from the east so we get all of Russia/China/Europe nonsense at some point. I cannot see any reason for ULEZ or other whatsoever. Stealth tax….. complain as much as you like…. once implemented it stays.

Ask Yourself this…… how much CO is actually in the atmosphere? 0.04%

The U.K. accounts for less than 1% global emissions🤫
China accounts for more than 31% - bet they do not pay ULEZ or restrict to 20mph😂

ULEZ is pocket money for the coffers and we still send millions in aid to China- work that one out🤬
