Chat New car in the CHB household!

I appear to have accidently added a second A2 to the CHB fleet.
Its a black 1.6FSI Sport on an 02 plate with 100k on the clock.

The car itself is a little tatty. Needs new discs on the front, a new plastic bit for the bottom of the windscreen, a new rear OS light cluster and new check straps for the doors. Also has the usual FSI list of fault codes, but nothing too scary. The alloys need a refurb, but they are the standard 6spoke 16 inch ones that I already have.

The reason I bought it though is this....mint black sports leather and a fully functioning OSS roof.
This car will be a project! Plan to take it back to basics and subject to clutch, engine and gearbox being sound it will be refurbed with new FSD suspension and ATE brakes etc.

Should hopefully be able to transform this unloved cinderella into a car to be proud of!

Anyone breaking an A2 for some of the donor parts I need?

(Guess this means the BMW i3 will be off the cards for a while).

Three and a half here. I also have a half share in an FSI project car. They kind if get into your blood. Cheers mike and a good find chb

How many forum members now own more than 1 A2 I wonder?!

Well, there's two in our Family! Petrol and diesel. It makes comparisons very easy! The petrol is far, far more civilised, for a start! Running costs obviously favour the diesel, by a long way .... I would imagine that there will be very few individual A2 members personally owning two of these, though?

I currently own 1 and a half... My TDI, plus a 1.4 petrol that I'm slowly pulling to pieces.
I have owned 5 other A2s, though - an FSI, a 1.4 petrol and 3 TDI75s - all project cars.

We are currently on hols, so I dont get to pick the car up until a week on friday.

After a clean and lube of the roof I can start getting my head round this list of fault codes....
Any pre collection tips welcome:

Picked the car up today. Drove it back from S****horpe to Leeds. It drove really well. A bit weak on power, but then its not seen 97 or 99 ron petrol in living memory.
It drives straight, brakes are good, clutch it good. Only thing is that the gear box is a bit notchy compared with my other FSI.

Its also an odd spec. I assumed it was a sport, but its actually an SE with sports leather, OSS, DIS and cruise control (cruise currently not working, not sure if this is because engine management light is on or some other simple reason.

Lovin it so far!

Best £1100 I have spent this year!

That's a great wee project and a good price too - the sport leather is worth a fair chunk of what you paid on its own. Judging from the last photo - the seller drove a hard bargain though - I've never known anyone to take a buyers shoes as part of the deal.

Now that's a haggler I admire

Look forward to it being nursed back to full health, update pics of the job would be well received I'm sure.

I'm loving the fact that forum members are buying up neglected A2s and restoring them to full health.
Nice seats!

I tried to get him to take my shirt instead, but he refused for some reason. :)

I got me a new front door! Yippee. Picking up today. £40 complete with all electrics and mirror.

Aesthetically that will do wonders for the car.

That's a great bargain, and you're right - getting rid of that nasty dent and knackered mirror will transform the car. looking forward to reading about you nursing the car back to health! :D

Ok, shopping list time! Appologies for this not being in classifieds, but I wanted to keep all the stuff for this car in one thread (if thats ok). Pics that follow are of 1.6Fsi, some are of my first car and show the bit I need, some are of the new car and are of the gap/broken bit that I want!

Ok first up is the corrugated hose that drains from near the windscreen wiper (oh and all clips etc):

Next we have the broken plastic trim that sits at the bottom of the windscreen and houses the washer jets etc:

Then I need a pair of covers for the wiper arm bolts:

And both sections of rubber trim that surrounds the engine bay (picture of my 1st A2 with this present, pointy finger marks the item!):

Minor but annoying....want the proper bolt for this location:

And the wire clip for drivers side headlight:

And lastly for now, this engine hose bracket:

And the gap where it should be on the new A2:

Oh....and one more thing, no picture unfortunately. When I remove the drivers side headlight and look at the apperture left in the car, there are two bolt on adjustable location tabs. One of these is missing on the new car, and the bolt for securing it.

Can anyone supply all the above?

Ta!

Your own copy of ETKA might be a good idea for this project so you could have the part numbers first hand and ask Audi for the cost. I get a 15-20% discount from parts counter ( don't ask don't get) and I recall almost buying some minor trim pieces on eBay for what seemed a small charge plus £2~ postage and it turned out to be the princely sum of 70 pence from Audi.

I'd imagine those rubber seals and scuttle panel won't be that cheap though - so hopefully one of our members who has a breaker can help you out.

So my mate popped round today and I showed him the new A2.
I told him it ran OK but I needed to get to the cause of the EML fault causing the orange engine light on the dash.
He said "What orange light?"

It appears that my EML has gone out of its own accord of some point.
I serviced the car a few weeks ago, but other than turning the engine over on my drive the car has not been "driven".
Will do a scan when I get chance, but looks like the major engine work I planned might not be needed.
Only thing I noticed when I serviced the car was that it had the wrong plugs fitted:

If I got this car cheap just because someone scrimped by a fiver on fitting the correct plugs then I will chuckle for a while!
Happy news!

Lights back on!!!
