Chat New car in the CHB household!

Achievements so far have been modest! New door NS front door and mirror fitted. Rear OS door surround replaced (it had been butchered in an earlier glass replacement). New rear light cluster. Oil and filter changed and new spark plugs.

The OSS needs some love (will get a trusted forum member to do this in due course!).

Next (and biggest) job however is the engine bay. One of my mates thinks I am stupid to have done all the above on a car with an EML problem. However, to do the engine is a big job. It will be done, so the better weather is here and I have a weeks holiday coming up!

It's a long time since I posted on this thread, because work and other things have gotten in the way of spending time on the project car.
Today however I took it down the the very nice and talented Chumsofmanutd to have some engine bay work done (looms damaged, pipework a mess etc etc) and have the injectors, sensors and flaps etc sorted out.

I have wheels at the powdercoaters being refurbished. So this spring will see the little black car back on the road!!

120 quid for 4 wheels. That is completely amazing. They look fab. There's a place near me does a similar quality job and I use them fairly regular but they're 50 quid a corner. I'd be better of getting wheels couriered to your place! !

They are really good, and the result is durable. Here are the winter wheels I had done in the same colour in 2013, this is their second winter and not problems or blistering:

Picture taken today.

Well, the car passed its MOT yesterday and is now taxed.
It's looking good here with a set of wheels from Rob and Marcus fitted (I have the grey 16" to fit when I collect).
Just need NOX sensor and a few cosmetic bits to get back to full health.
So a summer of OSS FSI fun awaits.
:)

Looking good. Are you at all tempted to swap all your bits onto the OSS car to make one REALLY well specced FSI?

Steve, the black car is already fairly fully loaded...OSS, SE spec (so fogs, illumanated mirrors etc), Leather seats, full DIS and cruise control. So the only thing my blue A2 has that is missing is rear electric windows. BOSE is also not fitted to either car, but it would cost too much to fit.

Thankyou very much for recommending LSN at Castleford - they are refurbing my wheels now and have done a great job on the one i have seen. If you still need the retaining clip for the back of the headlamp i have one spare. PM me and i,ll bring it round for free or you can collect, whichever you prefer. I dont think we are too far away, 10mins ?.

.....Also how long is the corugated black plastic drain tube that leads from the windscreen down into the engine bay supposed to be ?. Mine is well above the alternator but the end of the pipe allows the water to drain out in between the alternator and chassis leg - not sure if its positioned right, ( dont think its healthy to have water dripping over the alternator), and should it be longer to stretch further down towards the undertray.

Hi Dave,
I think I found a clip (but can't be 100% sure till I get the car back).
If you need a corrugated pipe then Hilary probably has one spare. I got a "new" one for my second car from a scrapyard in Doncaster.
Happy to meet up and help out if you need to check on another car where the pipe should be routed.

Ta very muchly - if you still need the headlight clip i can bring it round when we do the number plate lights.
Dave.
:)

So I picked the car up from engine TLC at WOW Automotive (Chumsofmanutd). Car runs really well and is due to be my main driver over the summer months!
Still lots of jobs to do on the car:
Stereo and climate buttons replace.
New brakes front and back and refurbish calipers
New suspension struts (and springs?)...though that might be next year.
OSS is semi working, would like to get it 100%
Last few engine bay jobs to replace some bits still missing.

The refurbished alloys are as good as new and IDS Tyres fitted me four brand new Continental tyres.

Car drives really well and flew through its MOT.

Fine afternoon for a bit of fettling!
NOX sensor fitted (donor from YorkshireHills car):

That't the engine sorted hopefully (well at least for a week...it is an FSI afterall!).
Next job suspension. New Monroe Reflex. Should I go for new springs too?

Good that you've been able to get something you need from my FSI after hours & hours of work dismantling. CC2 is progressing into a lovely car now.
Thank you chb
