One more AUDI A2 1.2TDI problem

These are the basic setting instructions:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/5-Speed_Electronic_Manual_Transmission_(085)

Follow them to the letter, in every detail and in the correct order! Get them translated , if necessary.

Use a battery charger throughout. You adjust the voltage by adjusting the cable length, not the linkage. The linkage should be loosened and then tightened (carefully) when it has found its un-tensioned position. Check the rod linkage for slackness at the ball ends; renew if necessary.

I have alot of expirence with the hydraulic gearsystem to offer on 1.2 tdi engines. First tool nessecery is a original version of Vcds to do the basic gear ajustment.

Thank you a lot for the help. I will ask the mechanic to try it again, with the instructions.

Thanks a lot Rab and Dup for your professional and friendly advice. I cant thank you enough. The problem is solved, i guess. the car drives fine, shifts nicely. I was kind of hoping the basic seting would cure that 2-3 clicks before engaging reverse, which happens every now and then, but it stayed, which is actually not much of an issue... :)

For reverse you may have a failing reverse switch. Gearbox oil has possibly started leaking into the switch and therefore the switch contact is poor. Easy to change, you won't lose a lot of oil and that you do lose just top up.

I replaced the switch a year ago, it was oily and good for replacement, but i saw no difference with the new switch...

Hi, is this Ok, the car went through the basic setting fine, and drives very well since i got it. The economy is great and shifts are smooth.... I just noticed some clicking with the hood open, with the ignition on, engine not running, and the gear lever in N... When in D there is the normal, well known same frequency continuous buzz, no clicking, and in Stop position, the buzz is changing frequency but no clicking? Is this normal, it must be some solenoid clicking?!

In N with ignition on, there should be slight continuous movement, to and fro, of the clutch, but no clicking. It would be, I presume, the valve in the hydraulic station which is controlled by a solenoid and which controls the clutch.

Hey Rab, thanks as always. Sorry to bother you. These cars are only for people living in Denmark or Swe :( Here are all 3 videos.... One with the usual, perfectly fine buzz iz wheh the lever is in D. One with clicking is in N, and the one with the continuous weird buzz that changes frequency is when the lever is in Stop.
I ordered a cable today to scan for errors myself.... Can you add something to the observarion, can you show the valve and solenoid on a pic? :)

Ive listened to it carefully. Its not coming. from the hydraulic unit, its coming from below, from the gangstaller thing....

Maybe there's something preventing oil from reaching the valve and therefore the valve is not "cushioned" by the oil; hence the hammering.

Ok, i have the whole pump in reserve, but we will try cleaning it first... It only happens in N, which is rarely used, so i suppose driving it for a few days wont be an issue. I must have driven it like this for at least 30k km. Only noticed this while we were diagnosing the clutch cyllinder. I would have noticed this if it was manifesting itself in D or Stop... I hope i wont have to do another basic setting. The car drives perfectly, smooth shifts and all. Ive changed the reverse switch once again the reverse issue is i think gone....

Guys, i havent taken the car for inspection yet, but heres where i pinpointed the clicking noises... When in N the Cluch cylinder oscilates a bit, to and fro, and in turn moves this black piece. In D there is no movement whatsoever, and no clicking...

By the mounting spring i presume you mean the black piece... It moves because the actuator wire is pulling on it... It moves in rhytm with the wire oscillation. Any idea how to correct this? :)

The clutch actuator is not mounted correctly. The mounting spring should engage with a boss on the actuator. It certainly shouldn't move.

RAB

Oh :( Can you please try to guess where the mistake was made, and how to correct it? Sorry for being a nuissance with questions :( When in N the actuator wire moves a little bit in and out, one second in, one second out, (you can see it by observing the wire) and thats when the clicking is heard. Should the wire move like that in N? I thought the movement was caused by voltage fluctuation. The actuator doesnt move in D or R... The car drives fine. The only other thing since actuator change i noticed is that its difficult to try how many gear changes I can make in tiptronic mode. When I try to change the gear nothing happens.... It takes like 10 trials for it to work...

If it can help...

By the mounting spring you mean the black piece i presume.... It moves because the actuator wire is pulling at it, and it moves in rhythm with the pulling motions of the wire.... Im goi g. to try another basic setting, but doubt it will cure the problem...
