Problem with key/remote/fob, VCDS 00955 Key 1

So one key "died" a few months ago and I thought the battery ran out, switched to other one I had and it died few days ago. Not really a problem as the car runs so few times a week. Well changed the batteries to both today and they won't resync. Sigh.

I tried 4 different ways (yes I know the "correct" way also what I have used before when battery from car was disconnected).

Problem now is that through VCDS I get following codes: (all up at first, then it dropped to 00955 or 00956 poppin)
00955 - Key 1
35-00 - -
00956 - Key 2
35-10 - -

No adaptation limit surpassed or errors, just blank dashes. When I clear them and switch Ignition off-on and recheck with VCDS the code 00955 or 0956 is up depending which key is used. No buttons pressed from the remote part during the off-on.

The car starts / runs ok, only other VCDS seen problem with CCU was de-safe with passenger door that pops sometimes (and that LHD drivers door sometimes doesn't unlock which might be the same thing?). Also some other code but I think it's webasto releated.
So is the CCU going going guano or can I take it to dealership for actual repair as I don't think the new key introduction with VCDS would help here or?

Thanks for thoughts.

Seems like it's the notorious CCU thats given out. Can't code it with VCDS (chan 21) to accept keys.
Also posts http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?105568-Key-fob-not-working-the-remote and http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2558215 say the same thing, even though being for different cars.

My box is AC ending, 2 electric windows. And I checked the threads about CCU here and a2freunde-wiki:

So I am safe looking of AC or AF ending used unit, but how do I check the "PR-5D1" code for the unit that is the only choice with remote locking? I am ok without the remote so I think I'll source a used box first, seems around 100-150euros and then get the old box repaired ~100euros? Atleast I didn't find any other "system" on the car that might be affected due the CCU problem in hand.
