Looks good to me! Rear ride height should only be assessed with some load in the back, my kids alter it a lot so 2 adults should really make a difference!
I imagine your rear shocks are in good order as when I fitted these springs with worn out factory original shocks the height stayed too low, which only improved with newish rear shocks fitted. That said the springs should set the ride height regardless of shocks but not in my case..
Evening Tom,

Yes the shocks looked fine although a little dirty but no oil residue observed so left them for now. I have them in stock should they need swapping in the future.

The springs actually looked to have not aged at all after a wipe down. They were possibly changed in the last few years but for a lower ride height which I wanted to address. I could probably have got away with just replacing the lower rubber/foam mounts but for the cost of parts I swapped them for the KYB springs which have restored its SE ride height.

I must admit I do like comfort that a fresh SE setup provides and remember it well from Project 250. I didn’t drive it often at all but the difference was night and day between the Sport setup of Project OEM in comparison.

Project EUD now boasting its slightly wider stance with the 20mm hub adapters and new springs feels absolutely perfect for comfort and handling. I’m not a fast into the corner type of driver (save that for the MV Augusta F4 1078 312RR) but know it would respond nicely if I was to do so.

Really happy with the outcome of an hours work this morning. I’ve now noticed there is a rattle which sounds like the calipers are loose, I know this is not the case so suspect it’s the drop links are in need of replacing. A pair of Meyle HD drop links on order and will fit them next weekend which should see the suspension work recently started by either @PaulA2 or @Audiobull completed for the next few years.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Just received these to cure the rattle I have coming from the front:

This should see this car comfortably sorted for the next few years now everything that needs replacing is either replaced or lined up for tasking this weekend.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hope it does sort the rattle, I've still not found out what is causing the rattle on my silver A2
Haha,

Me too John. It’s only when I’m driving over manholes or uneven ground so guessing it’s the drop links. I’ll let you know if the rattle is still present once I’ve conducted the swap Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello all,

I know I’ve inundated you with pictures of wheels recently which I can only apologise for. Further apologies also required as I’m about to show you yes another set, which I’ve had in the garage for a couple of years ready for the right A2. The idea of fitting these particular wheels was inspired by Menno @Menno a few years ago, after seeing a set of the below wheels on his A2 made me start searching for a set right away. The search didn’t take long but never got around to fitting them to Project OEM, very glad I waited because I believe this stunning example which is now dripping on specification deserves such a great set of wheels:

These wheels would naturally sit well inside the wheels arch but on recommendation by Steve @A2Steve, they have been pushed out 20mm all round. They fill the wheel arches perfectly and provide as much improved stance in my option.

Wow Tom, remember seeing this when I picked up Project 250 ... stunning upgrades... those alloys best Ive seen on an A2 !

Hello Neil,

Yes this lovely A2 has come a long way since you collecting Project 250; which I’m glad to hear is performing well for you.

There has been some 10 pages of posts on this thread since you was last here at 2work Towers, progressing well but not finished yet. With the exterior look pretty much done I need to refocus my limited time to the interior to complete a few tasks I’ve had on the back burner for too long. Mainly the headlining as it’s gone from sagging in just one corner to unsightly worse the last few months. Everything is here in the garage to complete this task, just need the time now.

Very glad you like what you’ve caught up on. This was already a great car as you can probably remember but feel that it’s been sympathetically updated/enhanced the last 6-7 months which hopefully hasn’t taken it too far from Audis original design intension back in the 90s.

It’s not far off from where I wanted it to be to serve as my commuter. Such a shame that I no longer do the miles since a change of role which sees me working from home more than heading to the office now. Maybe the fleet needs to be further trimmed.

Cannot wait to see a possible Gold FSI thread Sir, looks a cracking purchase.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

As promised and with a gap in the clouds, I wanted to rectify the slight rattling that was coming from the front of the vehicle over uneven ground.

The hope was that simply fitting these would cure the issue:

So got the tools out an hour ago to remove these:

IMG_8017.jpeg

These are quite puny compared to the Meyle HDs

I didn’t take many pictures of the process as it’s quite a simple task with plenty of useful information available on here and elsewhere.

Below are the minimal pictures I did take.

Whilst I was there I checked the torque of the hub adapters and of course correctly secured the wheel bolts at the correct setting. With the rears checked last weekend after replacing the springs, I should be good for the next 2000-3000 miles before the wheels are off again to recheck the torque.

Mini suspension overhaul complete. I can confirm that after a test drive on known local roads that present the rattle, that the ambition of curing it was a success. Such a great outcome for an hours work the last 2 weekends. The price of these items (rear springs and rubbers along with the drop links) were not expensive at all and I’m still quite amazed at the difference these cheap DIY tasks can make the interaction with the vehicle and the ride quality feel.

Obviously very happy with the outcome.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

What’s the thoughts on adding a slightly different FBMFSW to this lovely A2. I’ve had my eye on the below steering wheel for a while now and have chatted to the seller a few times about it, just cannot decide if it’s right for my cockpit:

IMG_8021.jpeg

It’s an A3 8Y FBMFSW which has been refurbished with carbon fibre. These aren’t cheap but happy funds such an idea. Too much?

Kind regards,

Tom

It's a nice enough wheel but not my cup of tea. I do however really like the smaller airbag on the newer steering wheels.
Much as I like my A1 wheel the airbag is pretty big looking in small cabin

Hello David,

I’m thinking this too to be honest which is probably why I’ve not jumped on the offering. Agree that the smaller airbag looks nice though. Maybe I go for a standard perforated leather A3 8Y FBMFSW.

There is of course nothing wrong with the A3 8V FBMFSW I currently have retrofitted. Just like the idea of change but probably a waste of funds that could be sat dormant for an opportunity to grab a Votex spoiler. .

Thanks for the input Sir and I hope all is great way up the road.

Kind regards,

Tom

I like it Tom. Jelly has a flat bottom, thickened up TT wheel, and Smurf has the same but also flat top. The thicker grips are so much nicer to drive with.

Visually I find it a bit on the grotesque side, but being an engineer who prioritise function over look I would probably be won over if it feels superb to use.

A step too far for me, but if you like it then do it. I’m sure you could move it on again if needs be.

Hello Men,

Thank you for responding with honest thoughts, very appreciated.

I do think the modern carbon fibre looks quite tasteful in the picture but probably wouldn’t look to good within the A2. I’ll reconsider my plans and stick with the current A3 8V FBMFSW for now but may jump on a reasonably priced A3 8Y perforated leather FBMFSW.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all.

Been pondering recently and have decided to remove the current FBMFSW as someone wanted one and I fancied a slight change. Therefore this wheel was removed:

I can promise you that I’ve not quite gone down this route:

IMG_8175.png

Agreeing with those that posted regards the above 2017-2023 FBMFSW being not quite fitting for the A2, I believe the smaller diameter airbag might just suit our aluminium friends…

So I took a gamble on an A3 8Y FBMFSW:

IMG_8170.jpeg

The airbag is of the single stage variety so all good on the safety front:

IMG_8171.jpeg

The MFSW buttons of course do not work but have taken another gamble hoping that the A4 B9 buttons communicate as the earlier type with the Mode button on the left.

Here’s the type of buttons that are on order and should land in the coming days:

IMG_8176.jpeg

IMG_8177.jpeg

IMG_8178.jpeg

I’ll hopefully have the soldering iron out this evening to conduct the retrofit and await the above style buttons to arrive. Fingers crossed all works out but if not then I can always go back to the earlier style of FBMFSW and sell the recent purchases. Always looking to improve what I’ve already completed when there is absolutely no need!

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom, you know I love your posts...
I'm sure this is going to look perfect and that normally means my wallet becomes ever so slightly more strained than normal.

That said, please never stop these updates.

Looking forward to seeing the result!

D

Evening David, As you like these updates here’s a sneak preview of what I started earlier this evening.:

IMG_8182.jpeg

Whilst I’m in there adjusting things I thought I’d cut all the Mini ISO connectors out and solder in a factory A3 Quadlock connectors to make it look better than the bulky Quadlock harness adapter. Totally unnecessary but I like to improve upon what’s already been completed.

If you refer back to the above picture and then compare it to the below FBMFSW that was in there before you should see that the airbag is much smaller in diameter:

IMG_8183.png

Just need the new A4 B9 buttons to arrive now to test their functionality. I hope it’s all okay but if not then I’ll be just as happy to revert back to the older FBMFSW.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

After following the good advice on a recent popular thread regards Webasto coding; mine fired up late last night. I can confirm that it jumped into action minutes ago. So chuffed that it was so simple to get it working again.

Long live the Webasto!

Kind regards,

Tom
