Service offered: climate control button replacement

May be worth listing exactly which models and years air con panel switches are interchangeable with the A2 and remember to include the A2. Same goes for the radios, are you doing them all or only a certain model and what would they need to get the donor from. Emphasise to try to buy broken but suitable switches to replace their worn switches, no point getting a donor that half the needed switches are as bad as their existing units.

Updated bud :)

Hi Louis,

I think I should point out that word 'repair' in the title thread needs thinking about and changing. I can just see a member looking at the thread title thinking "great, I can send my Concert that stopped working six months ago to Louis, he must be an electronic wizard". Hope you see the point.

Not a bad little business idea, but for what is worth I think it would be far more successful if you provided the buttons. I think this would appeal to some members who do not want to spend time and the uncertainty of sourcing donors from sources they may not be familiar with. Buy a few units and see how it goes.

Agreed.

Think about this as an investment! You put some money in to make more money!
If you offering a service like this you should provide the buttons yourself. You could have more costumers who doesn't want to take the hassle to buy a donor unit. (Me personally wouldn't take time and more money to get the button from eBay much better if you offering the buttons too)
If you buy some units you could charge like £20-£30 per unit. After you replaced it there is a good chance you can spare the donor unit's button for the next costumer therefore not every replacement needs a new donor unit if you lucky so you can make even more profit without changing the price.

Hope it makes sense.

After a while you will see if worth the time and money to go other forum to get more costumers too.

But this is a very good idea!
Good luck!

Another point to consider. The buttons in the A4 CC units are satin black or something similar and all the worn stuff is soul black.
Some people barely notice the colour difference - and some do notice and don’t like it. Some people would be ok with it if ALL buttons are changed but would not want odd buttons changed.
Point is - if you are selling a service - at any price - you need to explain exactly what the buyer will be getting.

Hi everyone just a quick update as some people are slightly confused what I’m offering and I’ve not explained it well :)

Anyway here goes

If your climate control looks like this.?

51848

After you have paid for my service the climate control will be returned to you like this ?

51849

I am willing to buy the units so the person wanting to have there buttons changed don’t have to go through a pain in the rear to find one and get it posted to them etc :). But this will come at a extra cost. If I’m finding the climate control it will take me time to find the right one and I’ll have to pay postage fees etc

The best I can do me supply the buttons for your climate control fitted would be £40 and also the climate control would be sent back the same day as I receive it :)

Please note I will only be able to fit hard touch buttons in your climate control as trying to find a good set of soft touch buttons is a pain in the rear and would probably be more than £40 :)

What you see above is what your climate control would look like after using my service

This is how it would work

You send me your climate control
I replace the buttons on your climate control
Then I send you a picture of your climate control all finished and if you are happy you pay me £40 and then your climate control gets returned to you the next day :)

Moving onto radios I’m not going to offer radio button replacement just yet as I’ve had a look around and I can’t find a radio less that £45 with really good buttons so for now I’m only offering the service on climate control panels:)

Hope this has made everything clearer for you guys :)

Thanks :)

Be aware that there are subtle differences to the plastic moulding of some buttons; you'll find that they seemingly fit the fascia perfectly, but don't spring back flush when pressed.

Cheers,

Tom
Thanks for letting me know tom :)

There is a problem with replacing the worn "soft touch" buttons with the hard, earlier type and that is that they don't match the colour or texture of the main panel. The buttons are a stronger black and do stand out! I feel that it's better to source a complete earlier A/C unit. I found that a unit from an Audi A3 is also suitable

You are right David, however then some would argue that the earlier complete climate units do not match the rest of the soft touch paraphernalia...

@A2 Louis - I think the profit vs you're time (especially considering arranging couriers, then dropping off at couriers or making sure someone is home waiting for them to collect) will outweigh much point of doing this service. This coupled with potential losses, breakages or late deliveries (and people being without cars etc) I suggest the best thing would be to do similar to P Stamp and actually purchase old units yourself, refurbish them and then offer them either for sale or on an exchange basis.

Good idea I’m going to see if anyone is interested first if not we will go from there :)?

Hi everyone if you don’t need your buttons changing on your climate control because there fine but you want it cleaning as the fan is clogged in dust etc. I am now offering a service for cleaning the fans on climate controls for £10 :)

You can send me your climate control and I send it back the same day or you can come round my house and I’ll do it while you wait of course you will get a cuppa tea and a biscuit for waiting :)
