The definitive tyre / wheel size thread

I was just wondering if someone can be kind enough to tell me what are these alloys called taht have been posted by Dimitar? I am sure A2sumo had these on his A2 and Talby too? Whats the ride like?

Nice1,
I believe they are mk1 TT wheels although not sure on there name,
Would look great on an A2!
Cheers Jeff

Nice1,

I think they were refered to as the '6 arm design' alloy wheel - I think it appeared as an option on the TT in 2004 or 2005 model year something like that. Quite often found on TTr 150 as it was a cheap wheel option to upgrade to 17" from the standard 16".

The ideal wheels you want (assuming you want to keep 17") should be

5 x 100mm PCD (the bolt pattern)
35ET (the position of the face that bolts to the hub)
7" or 7.5 " maximum width.
Maximum tyre width 215, but ideally 205 40 17 (for a 7" wide wheel)

The standard 9" 9 spoke alloys that are fitted to the A2 sport models and some early TTs are the right ones, but they are not the strongest wheels and prone to buckling on big potholes (but to me they look the best of all wheels)

Can I go for 205 45 17?

I have 215 40 17 summer and 205 40 17 winter, I like them hard and jumpy, but I'd like to add some rubber, in case my son takes over the car...

Yes the 205 45 17 it at the top end of the scale but should be fine and I think some people run them on here.
Your speedo should be accurate too.
Steve B

Alright, Steve, thanks!
I don't worry much about the speedo, I have never experienced a 100% accurate speedo in any Audi.
This one shows 90kmh when it's 85kmh, 150kmh when it's 140kmh, +/-. Not sure if GPS shows an accurate speed, but it matches better with the speed control signs along E18, that the speedos shows.

Thanks!!!
The steering rack is perfectly centred and ET is 32, that's 3mm wider on each side, I guess there won't be any problems.

Here's a photo of my car on 205/45/17 tyres from some years ago: http://www.a2oc.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=9736&d=1340453484

They added to comfort considerably and resulted in an accurate speedo. As long as the ET of the wheels is similar to that of the 17" Sport alloys and your steering rack is properly centred, there should be no issues with rubbing.

Cheers,

Tom

You were right, Tom!
It's the first time that speedo and my GPS speedo show the same speed! Even the speed warning boxes showed 80 when I had 80.
Can' complain about the comfort, better than 205 or 215 40 17, I must say.
I'm off to Denmark on Sunday, we'll see how they are on the better roads, at higher speed.

Hello are those wheels going to fit the A2 year 2003.

The size is 17" 5x100 ET32 7.5J
If they are going to fit what tires to use with dose rims? 195/45R17 or 205/40R17?

Ok so i bought the rims.
Now i need advice again for the tires. So for those wheels i already know that the 205/40R17 tire is going to work.
Now i need information is 205/45/R17 going to work. I really prefer that size , but must know is they going to fit without any rubbing in wheel arches.
Consider that the rims are ET32 J7.5.

Hi, I can't be 100% sure but I really do thing that the 205/45/17s will fit fine. 205s will look slightly stretched whatever profile you use. So the width of the tyre is exactly the same. The 45s will just be slightly taller.

So they should be fine.

I know now that people on here are using the 205/45/17 tyres and are very happy, it is just that they will mostly be using them on 7" wheels, not 7.5 which is why I am just being a little over cautious.

205 45 17 on TT 7.5 17 rims ET32, fitted last week, no rubbing, no problems at all. Just arrived in Copenhagen, drove about 500km full speed, on both wet and dry roads - big difference, compared to 205 40 17. I have standard high suspension, just to note that...
