Today I.....

Today i,
Travelled to Peterborough and picked up the final parts needed to rebuild my A2, and the 6weeks of driving around in a gutted A2 is near its end,
A big Thankyou to Manhattan$ , a gentleman and a scholar, and his lovely wife for keeping the coffee flowing, as rather a chilly one outside today and was very much appreciated.,, And not forgetting the original A2 donar , Ricardo who made all this possible.
A Big Thankyou to You Both and a credit to the A2 Owners Club.

Regards Gary

You are very welcome Gary. Glad to help.

It was good to meet you and talk all things A2. I must say your A2 is looking great especially with the suspension and 15" wheels.

All the best with fitting those parts and Merry Christmas

....sat pondering whether its ever going to get cold enough this year to fit my winter wheels

Too late for me. I can feel that soft grippy luvverly winter rubber grinding off the carcass of the tyre every time drive down the motorway in this 15 degree weather....

I keep consoling myself that I'm off oop North for Crimble and it's bound to be grimmer and colder there......

Tyre experts tend to recommend that if you don't want to swap tyres twice a year, you can run on winter tyres all year around.

It is pretty clear that tyre wear may increase slightly but I am not sure that it is hugely significant?

Happy to be corrected (as usual).

15 degrees down south means 7 degrees up north, trust me.

Today I had various coolant pipes / clips replaced, coolant flush, MAF & throttle body cleaned / calibrated, together with missing bolts in place. Air intake duct secured in place plus gear linkage greased up.

Next stop 'Stainless Steel Exhaust'.

Today I fitted a rear wheel bearing and a CV boot to my A2. I also fitted Eibach Fabia rear springs to complement the Bilstein B4 shocks that I fitted a month ago.

I just need to fit the front Bilstein B4's and Eibach springs, Meyle top mounts and Febi bump stops.

It's coming along very nicely...

... set up the appointment for the brakes to go on. at €150 there's not much point doing it myself, as I don't 100% know how to bleed the braking system... so I'd rather it be done by a pro. Then my ESP will work again and I can go get my MoT.
First, though, to paint the new rear drums. Silver.

Today i took my car into German Auto Care, Wakefield. They did a cambelt and water pump change for me last March and noticed that a turbo pipe bracket had broken (front lower ). Its been at the back of my mind to have it fixed now for a while and i booked it in with them just before Christmas.

They quoted me an hours labour, plus parts, plus VAT so i was expecting to pay around £60. It took them around 40 mins to do the job - most of the time spent removing the undertray !. They made me a coffee and i watched them fix it through a viewing glass.

When the time came to pay i was told that they had fitted it for free "because its Christmas" - wow, this has never happened to me before - total bill for the bracket only was £8.36.
A big thankyou to German Autocare !

Well sounds like they well looked after you Dave and respect to German Auto Care wakefield as you rarely get that kind of service nowadays and what a great result for your pride and joy..

Thanks Gary,

I don,t even "know" them that well and have only been in for work doing twice - last March and this morning. :)

Yes nice, but I wonder why when you had the cambelt and water pump changed and they noticed that the bracket was missing, they didn't contact you and say do you want the broken bracket replaced. Would have only added a few minutes to the cambelt job.

Still sounds like you should use them again. I used my local independent Audi dealer the other day to change the water temperature sensor and they didn't charge for topping up the lost coolant. The main dealers would have probably charged for a litre of coolant like they itemise and charge for every nut and washer.

Hi Alan,

The cambelt change is a biggish job and my car was booked in for only a day last March. At that time they did a free visual inspection and noted a few faults - mainly suspension related. Ive had all of them fixed at various times throughout the year apart from the turbo bracket (i wasn,t sure where the broken bracket was or the part number).

I think they gave me the fault list and then left me to decide as to whether or not to go ahead with further work (i,ve done a lot myself). The bracket probably would have taken at least 24hrs to order from Audi so its no surprise that they couldn,t fix it on the same day.
