Today I.....

... Spent 5000 NOK (£390) on the little one. It got new rear wheel hub, new oil breather, new oil brether hose. Oil and oil filter changed too, since it was the service time anyway. The little one is on the road again. The little guy on the photos is a German mechanic and he has no problem with customers taking photos :)

... Pick up the crystal blue car from A2 cars.

pretty major overhaul of suspension, brakes, gearbox ....

That will be a pleasant journey home. A nice Christmas present to yourself :)

Yes, Steve.

Might have to ask for two receipts though ... one to leave on the hall table when I get home, and one to 'lose' in my back pocket!!

Today I.... Used some of the Power Maxed Winter Sealant as recommended by Chris in the Valet & detailing forum. Haven't tested the beading yet and it's possible I put too much on (used neat from the trigger spray bottle) but I found it difficult to not end with quite smeary windows.

Simon.

Hi Simon

Would you highly recommend them?.

Um not sure if this is aimed at me regarding X-treme Vision bulbs - if it is then I would say they are ok but don't expect a night and day improvement ;-) The main reason I picked them up was they were on special offer at ECP.

those look remarkably like the original bump stops at the back.... should be replaced with Seat Cupra items....especially if it's lowered.

... got my XOs done for the living room speakers and multiple Arduinos running. There *will* be coloured LEDs in the A2 before long :)

Why's that Bret? You're a man of brevity at the best of times but that statement worthy of some explanation if you'll indulge to support the many who may be considering suspension upgrade. I too replaced my bump stops with OE parts. Thanks.

Hi Brett

I can't say they are Cupra ones, but I'm pretty confident that they are not the standard items following my conversation yesterday.

Today i,
Travelled to Peterborough and picked up the final parts needed to rebuild my A2, and the 6weeks of driving around in a gutted A2 is near its end,
A big Thankyou to Manhattan$ , a gentleman and a scholar, and his lovely wife for keeping the coffee flowing, as rather a chilly one outside today and was very much appreciated.,, And not forgetting the original A2 donar , Ricardo who made all this possible.
A Big Thankyou to You Both and a credit to the A2 Owners Club.

Regards Gary

Hi,

the length of the bump stops is really important when you're lowering the car any quantity. A B8 drops the amount of possible piston movement by around 20mm, so when you've lowered 30mm+, then the maximum suspension travel starts to be limited by the bump stop only.
So there's a list of measurements:

Hinterachse:
Anschlagpuffer 67mm (Seat Ibiza Cupra)
6Q0512131D

Anschlagpuffer 113,5mm (Polo)
6Q0512131C

Anschlagpuffer 123mm (A2)
6Q0512131B

Anschlagpuffer 140mm (A2)
8Z0512131C

Since my rear axle is around 50mm lower than original, even the polo "puffer" wouldn't help much. So I went straight to Cupra. Considering the amount of movement I demand, I figure that's the only sane way to go. If you have issues with bottoming-out when loaded, this is the way to go. I realised I'd had non-shortened stops with the FSDs, which meant that when loaded, they got a serious workout. Not good.
As it stands, with the lowering and the shortened-by-40mm bump stops at the front, I can still easily hit them on certain movements, so I'd err towards a too-short bump stop than a too-long one.

I would also not advise shortening them. I did this on the rear of mine and have had the paint shaved off one damper as a result, because the protective cap sat incorrectly.
