Today I.....

Thanks for the detailed response Andrew, living where I do all season tyres might be a good choice, we hardly ever have snow and little ice.
185/65/15 seems to be the most popular size available unless any one has other recommendations, looking for comfort mainly.

Steve

185/65/15 is probably the biggest sidewall that you can have on the A2 on the 15" wheels. The next size up for sidewall is 195/65/15 but that's explicity mentioned as not fitting on the definitive tyre wheel thread: https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/the-definitive-tyre-wheel-size-thread.12120/ 195/65/15 is however the standard size for the A3 15" wheels so lots of second hand wheels will come with this size.

185/65/15 is larger in diameter than the standard fitment. The speedo will read lower (and correctly!) with these wheels. If you want the standard size then 195/55/15 is the one to pick but that has a smaller sidewall.

regards

Andrew

Today I picked up these 15” pepperpots to go on the £225 A2
In really good condition other than weights have been stuck on the outside and have left some residue

Tyres are all 195/65/15 and I believe that they will fit but rub?

Looking for some cheap all season tyres if anyone is selling...

When I was after a cheap set of winter tyres I managed to purchase a full set of Toyota Yaris wheels and tyres. Slightly larger diameter tyre than standard but a good fit for the A2 - 175/65/15. Worth searching the local classifieds for this sort of deal.

Today , well Wednesday called into a fellow a2 owner , and gained a full set of mud flaps , wiper motor and the 1.2 TDI exhaust undertray , and early this morning while waiting plane, fitted my new to me hand brake storage tray in the air port car park
Fitted my 1st one over 13 years ago , and has taken well over 6 months to track this one down , rather pleased !
I even found the fitting guide from this site which I used 1st around , it does feel like your ripping your car to bits .......

Today I ... got round to painting the wiper arms :)

More parts have started arriving in the post ... new bolts from Belfast Audi ... so the next stage of Project Resurgam will commence over the weekend.

1. In the bag ... Control Arm Bolts (x6), Rear Spring Upper Seats (x2) and Wiper Motor Grommet ... and other small bolts, plastic rivets.

2. The wiper arms have been waiting for a rainy day ... today was that day.

3. Stripped back to bare metal, etch primed and three coats of satin black later with an espresso and A2OC catch-up between coats.

4. Looking not too shabby

5. Old style 'hook' attachment with the pivots tightened not so gently with a big hammer and a centre punch

6. Missed a bit round the back ... another coat won't do any harm

Good work Tom. Hope the wishbone replacement goes smoothly - big ask but let's be optimistic :)

Are those wipe arm springs replaceable? I replaced my wiper blades in April (3,000 miles ago) and cleaned and RainX the windscreen a few weeks ago but the passenger side is now smeary. The arms are original from 2004.

Hi Alan ... sorry I don't know if the spring is replaceable, I had a look in the basic online catalogue (link below) and could only find the complete arm ...

http://www.oemepc.com/audi/part_sin.../955/subcategory/955000/part_id/258842/lang/e

Mine haven't given me any trouble yet and are still the originals but I learned some time ago that the contact angle needs to be just right, I'm sure there will be a thread on here somewhere of how to set the angle correctly but I used trial and (mainly) error by gripping the flat part of the hook with vice grips , inserting a screwdriver in the hook and twisting it .... certainly stopped any judder, maybe it would also stop smearing.

Thanks ... hopefully everything is in place for the wishbones ... made sure I could at least loosen the bolts before I bought all the parts so have a head start in the morning

Thanks for reading ... maybe should put a list together of all the tools that I used to complete the job

I'm all in favour of the 'Today I...' thread, but it's posts like this that I think merit their own thread. This is excellent information, but in a few months it'll be totally lost into an abyss of 5000 other posts. Perhaps a moderator could extract it and give it a suitable title?

Cheers,

Tom

I have moved this post into the "how to" section Tom...hope this meets with approval.

Hi Dave ... sorry my fault, still navigating my way round, glad you could find a home for it ... re-assembling the rear suspension soon and I will post it to wherever you think is appropriate ... all the best ... Tom :D

No need to apologise. It's a well written post and will benefit members if they decide to undertake similar repairs.

Today I met Jeff (after many post and PM over the years), fitted a refurbished OSS to his rather nice A2
What a really nice gent. Great to finally put a face to the name
Enjoy trying to get the old OSS out of the car :)

Thanks Tom. I'll look at that :)

Today I..... got a smile like a Cheshire cat on my face, why is that you ask? well when an old customer broke down, she called the AA for help. The AA done their diagnostics, scratched their heads and guess what they told her?

..... 'Take it to Sarge!!' ....I kid you not! :)

Today i got the storm out of the garage and started stripping it for spares-----dont worry im not breaking it. My daily driver a2 i had a strange problem --- i picked vonnie up from hospital wednesday night in the rain. Having the wiper on but getting home i turned the car off after turning the wipers off, but as i turned the key i noticed the wiper still doing its dance. So turned the key and canceled the wipers-to find the arm was in the off position odd hmmmm
so thursday i drove with them on all the time it was ok as it was raining to and from work but friday sunny. So after conversing with sarge decided it definitely sounded like a relay issue. I have a spares a2 which i share with Robin in Birmingham so a replacement is on its way. So just to make sure I'm ok for work i have raided the storm and all is well with my daily driver.

Hi Mike
Can't remember the exact detail but think there is an extra set of contacts in the wiper motor for the 'park' feature. This allows the wiper to be powered until the arm reaches it's correct position before finally cutting the power.
If the relay does not fix the problem it could be worth checking the motor, which may prove (or disprove) my theory.

Cheers Spike

PS found this old post and the relay theory is looking good - https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/new-owner.34220/post-296882
