Have you got a double din dash already for it?
is the RNSE readily available ?
The car it’s going in is double din. But I’ve been hunting for months to find one for sub £300 and have dilly dallied abd missed a few. Loads for £450 + (a few at £700!!!) but I wanted to keep it sensible price wise.
 
Many thanks Tom. Will dig mine out when I have time. I thought 193G could give issues. I have a 193B in Jelly but need Audi BT module coding in to give hands free.

Fitted into OEM is a 2012 A3 193G unit running brilliantly, with said BT module and AMI. I have used the PCBBC Firmware to overcome most of the hurdles that Audi put in (or more importantly took out of the later RNS-Es). You’ve probably seen that I have the road speed limit icons on the display also.

If you plan on driving through any long tunnels or somewhere where for some reason you cannot get decent GPS visibility then you’ll need an Arduino unit to ‘put back in’ the hardware that Audi removed In these later units.

When you’re ready just send me a PM and we can do this over the phone sir.

Today I (well yesterday...) I took my A2 into Chelmsford Audi for an early MOT. The technician came and spoke to me half way through and gave me the option to stop the test and have a Health Check instead as the car would fail and my MOT currently expires mid-December.

So...more money into the car I guess as it’s original £1800 purchase cost in June has now turned into owing me around a £3,300.

A weekend of poking around online for parts and then a trip to my local trusted garage ?
 
I’m sounds like the things it needs will ensure it’ll go on to do another 100,000 miles or so, after which what you’ve spent and the additional investment will no doubt look like great value! You’ve certainly got a very nicely specced and superb looking A2 in a great colour as well and as we know, prices are rising. ?

I can imagine it’s annoying though. On the plus side, at least you’ve not now got it on your MOT history that the car needed all those suspension bits.

Honestly Rob, there nothing there of any real concern. The dust cover on the rear wouldn’t fail an MOT, a couple of springs can be picked up for about £30, same goes for the drop links. The only item that really needs addressing as a safety matter is the damaged track rod end and even that isn’t an expensive item. All routine maintenance there.

I personally would never take an old car to Audi for an MOT, it’s just asking for trouble.

RNS-E is indeed much better than RNS-D. RNS-D is useful as a radio and CD player, but now totally obsolete as a SatNav system.

RNS-E comes in two variants: mk1 and mk2. The part number of mk1 versions ends in 192, and the part number of mk2 versions ends in 193. The mk2 (193) versions have a faster processor, a higher resolution screen, support for larger SD cards, enhanced software, etc, etc.
The mk2 (193) versions can then be further subdivided into variants B, C, D, G, etc. This determines, first and foremost, the shape of their fascia. Different Audis have differently shaped centre consoles, so the plastic fascia of the RNS-E units needs to vary. The letter on the end also determines what auxiliary functionality is included. For instance, the G versions do not have the necessary internal hardware to support a voltage-triggered rear-view camera or an analogue speed pulse. Although aftermarket solutions exists to overcome this problem, the higher-spec B versions have all the necessary internal hardware to allow seamless integration with the A2's electrics.

In short, if you're looking for the best Audi SatNav system for the A2, it's the 193B.

I agree entirely and didn’t mean the tone of the message to suggest I was annoyed with my A2...there were already several issues to attend to on my to do list and have always (well mostly always!) maintained cars and replaced whatever has been required...and hopefully I will get many more miles by doing so!!

Yeah I appreciate that, and who begrudges giving their A2 a little attention anyway ?

Anything else I should be replacing while I’m at it?? There is a ‘looseness’ and grumbling from the steering/suspension over poor road surfaces...

Depending on your feelings about lowered suspension, you could just buy a set of Jom blue line coilovers for around £180, that combined with a set of polo 9n top mounts £28 and some drop links would be all that would be required to completely replace your suspension. There would certainly be no looseness after that lot had been changed.

You're very welcome. Thank you for your kind words.
Unfortunately, there are no Audi systems with Apple CarPlay that can be integrated into the A2. The earliest versions of RNS-E were released in 2004, towards the end of the A2's production run. Although RNS-E was never available in the A2, it was designed for Audis of the A2's generation, and therefore works perfectly in the A2. Later Audi SatNav systems, which were designed for a later generation of Audis, work on different electrical systems and therefore can't be integrated into the A2.

This creates a problem for the purists amongst us. Whilst I like the principle of CarPlay, I have a deep-rooted hatred of aftermarket car stereos ...but Audi don't make a product that works with both our modern phones and our classic car!
