Today I.....

I think until you see a yellow one in person you don’t realise just how yellow they are. The colour doesn’t seem to show on photographs properly. It really does cheer up a gloomy day ?
Yes when clean, the road dirty takes the edge off, but that yellow paint shines up like I have never seen on another car!
You can't really see it in my photos, but the two cars are completely different shades of yellow! When I was at WOM on Saturday, I also saw @Imola Yellow's car (that was a real treat ?), again a markedly different shade of supposedly the same colour. The plastic wings do tend to shade differently from the bonnet anyway, but at the advanced age they all are now, I guess a lot of it comes down to how much time they've regularly spent in what amount of sunlight.

I find they cut back really well, then with a sealant on top the colour comes back.

A2 1.4tdi (75) - now in 3rd week of ownership, 173,000 miles.
Today I changed the thermostat and now the temperature comes up to 90 and stays there :) Unfortunately now the glow plug light is flashing and the brake lights don't work!.... did I disturb something or is it time to change the brake light switch?
In the last few days I have fixed the passenger electric window, fixed the drivers electric door mirror, fitted heated mirror glass, fixed down the front undertray and removed very sticky gaffer tape residue (!). Also just had the cambelt and water pump changed, and non-starting fixed by installing a secondary earth cable between engine and body (thanks RAC for that one!)

Sounds like you have the unfortunate job of either removing the brake light switch, fiddling with it and re fitting (it’s worked twice for me on two different cars bls’s) or replacing it. It’s a horrible job from an access point of view though. I’d recommend removing the drivers seat unless you’re very bendy!!

Hi DS287,
I would check your brake light bulbs as the flashing glow plug light is used to highlight failure,
Check with a multimeter as they Can appear ok to the eye!

Good evening all!

I'm back from DS Motorsport nr Coventry. I had a few bits done; Cambelt and all associated parts.

Also, after 242,774 miles; 116,570 by me, The Balancer Shaft/ Oil Pump Drive Chain and Tensioners of Doom were replaced. And the clutch, which has been in Alison as long as I've had her.

The latter bits are well worth having done at the same time. Clutch had an estimated 1000 miles left! ?

I'm sure the chain was getting noisier too! ?

Today I replaced my 'wrong' thermostat and cover for the correct genuine Audi ones for my 1.4BBY.

Out with the old 'Topran' cover ... ... and metal 83° thermostat

and in with the new genuine Audi cover ... ... and 87° Thermostat

Genuine 87° Themostat.jpg

All working now and no HVAC fault codes showing ... I should quit while I'm ahead ???

And so it begins.
Pity one of the rings gave way, should glue back together ok.

Coming along nicely I think.

The outer ring needs doing again, slight reaction, its the chrome paint from Aldi. The other three rings are fine.
Also the Aldi chrome paint was used on the four rings.

And simonize egg shell black on the main cap.

It was indeed both bulbs blown in the end, both looked ok too. At least I now know how to change the brake light switch and I have a spare!!

E bay not cheap but 2 pack lacquer is toughest Finnish you can cover your newly painted wheels and 1 400 mil can will do the 4 fronts a couple of coats ... But I can’t stress enough the care you need you cannot breathe this stuff in ..A proper Cartridge filtered mask and goggles ? ..I use outside on a still day not in a confined shed ?
