Could I ask for 2nd dibs on these please Paul if CrispyEdd doesn't take them?

I don't know if you remember but we spoke about them some months ago but you decided to hold on to them at the time.

Cheers,

Neil ?

Oh no! - Do you need all four Neil?

No problem at all Ed. I actually just need two perfectly round one's, condition pretty unimportant otherwise as they will be fully refinished but they need to be round ??
I only need one to be honest so if there 3 good ones it's all okay isn't it then?

Hi Neil I think you decided against them from memory as I couldn’t guarantee how perfect they were they do need Refurb ..I don’t want to make this complicated Or contentious.. I have offered them to edd for a gift of a price which will pay for one tire I’m not making money.. Far from it if Edd wants to do a deal with you that’s entirely up to edd .. But my deal with him stands .. I’m just clearing a few things out that I’m not going to use..and just doing a favour from someone local .

Hi Paul, that's fine. I was just requesting 2nd dibs if CrispyEdd didn't take them, nothing more?

You gotta love the ‘improved’ pressed metal wishbones haven’t you
Cast ones for me every time

This isn’t just linked to the comment above…but I don’t understand the massive dislike for pressed items? Maybe I am naive/misguided/not particularly mechanically minded but my pressed ones lasted 18 years and 138,000 miles and I replaced with pressed items because that’s what it came with and because they lasted EIGHTEEN years and 138,000 miles…

I get your point, but for me it is a safety issue. The pressed steel ones rot from the inside out and as such it is near on impossible to decide when to change them to prevent failure in use
Most seem to fail at low road speeds as that is where the majority of pot holes are but what would happen if it failed at 70mph on a motorway/dual carriage way
I fear the worst if I’m honest. At best an out of control A2 at worst a rolled over found in a ditch A2
Either way I don’t want to take the chance

I’m sure when Audi changed to presses steel the driver was cost and as long as it had a 10 year ish service life they would be happy
However we are pushing the A2 way beyond the service life that Audi intended
If I could only get pressed steel arms then I would fit them, not the date fitted and look to be changing them again in 10 years time plus I’d be giving them a really good ‘on the bench rust proof treatment’ followed by years top ups
But the real issue is you can’t see the rot starting or progressing until the bloody think fails
And don’t even think about relying on the mot test to find it

Just my personal view and everyone is entitled to their own views

Cheers paul

Depends on location as well. A2s by the sea or in north of England / Scotland with lots of salt on the roads in winter the axles will have a shorter life.

When I wash the A2 I usually get the spray jet under the car and try to wash off salt but there must be nooks and cranies where the jet does not reach.

I do the same and still, when I have removed the plastic undertray to clean it, there was a lot of gung, sand, dirt, etc. behind the plastic undertray...

Today I am testing my custom made DRL loom with three Graetz diode bridges to lower the voltage for cca. 3V, so that front fog lights will not be at 100% brightness when in DRL function.
My main point is to find suitable aluminium place to fix diodes (preferably somewhere near light switch) to get proper heat dissipation from the diodes.

Picked up spare alloys from Paul @greywolfhound . What a lovely chap very skilled engineer with the best workshop I've ever seen!! Thanks to Paul and the great spirit of this forums members, I know have a smooth running set of wheels for an incredible price. Brilliant Paul! Thank you so much. Good luck with bmw bike restorations too. Works of art.

My pleasure edd ...really nice to meet you to .?

(Well a couple of days ago actually)...I took delivery of a yellow colourstorm FSI with the usual set point not reached fault. In the absence of a ProBoost ECU in stock, i'm going to have a go at replacing the lower inlet manifold myself. I must have removed about 30 of them from breakers over the years and so in the good old term coined by the Haynes manuals, assembly is reversal of removal......time will tell.

hi steve, heres one they always forget,
the little rod in vacuum actuator keeps the flaps in right position when refitting the lower manifold
hope this helps
