Today I.....

Not today, but yesterday, I took my son to Duxford to see the Spitfire exhibition. 275 miles of mostly motorway and dual carriageway, during which Alan clicked over to 170k and managed 74mpg doing 70 or the speed of the traffic (longish stretches of 60-65 on the A14). It still amazes me what a good car it is!

Wow, long journey with radio 4 on too :) only jesting, the 75 really is frugal compared to the 90bhp. Iw ould have got about 60 max, I wonder if anyone has tuned down a 90 witht he variable turbo to try and get more economy??

??

It must be possible to get better economy with a variable vane turbo - it's the setup the later VAG 1.2 tdi bluemotions used.

Perceived fuel economy will also be affected by different tyres sizes. So if you have lower profile (smaller rolling radius) tyres which cause the speedo to over read then your fuel economy will appear greater. If like me you have a higher profile tyre then your fuel economy will appear lower - or hopefully accurate! The difference could easily be up to 5% (I think my Pepperpots had something like 185/50/15 on when bought).

I shall be checking and adjusting Audrey’s torsion value in due course to see if I can get at least somewhere close to you.

This week I collected red seats and a replacement headlining from A2steve. Tonight's task was taking the headlining back out and getting the A pillars replaced.
You may note I've not got round to replacing the driver seat. Hopefully get it finished off tomorrow and get the car washed

Looking good so far David ?

If it was me, I think I’d spray the interior headlining plastics in a similar grey with some Plastidip and use the extra material Hef gave you to trim the material sections of the sunvisors.

If you need some sunvisors to practice on give me a shout, I’m sure I could spare some of the ones if got in stock for experimenting.

Thanks Steve, I was thinking the same. I was really apprehensive about starting the is but between you and Tom H giving me some great pointer so far so good.
I'll tackle a sunvisor and if I break it I'll give you a shout for a replacement.
I seem to accidentally turned my runaround in to a project...

Morning David,

The sun visor refurbishment is quite easy and I provided a few pictures here to assist in the separation of the 2 sandwiched parts involved. You have my number and happy to chat this through at any time Sir. Great to meet you on Thursday and thank you for the delivery of parts from Steve.

Kind regards,

Tom

It was great to meet on Thursday, your car in the flesh is even more inspirational than in the photos.
I've had a read of the post on the visors so expect either loads of phone calls or a few photos posted...
Speak with you soon

David

I got to go for a drive in my A2 after 2 months of works! And wow does it go.
new shocks, springs, wishbones, bushes, arb bushes, tie rod ends. Fixed the Flexi in the exhaust. Thoroughly washed out the cat. New discs callipers and pads. new drums, new shoes. tracking done. injectors professionally refurbished. new head gasket. new glow plugs. new valves and head lightly skimmed. new timing belt, new water pump, weeb*****d serviced and confirmed working for first time in ten years [new burner chamber]. Back in now to change the gearbox oil and fit the under tray.

Investigated the vibration from the front when braking and found this.. At best it's a boot failure, at worst the out cv joint is toast and part of the vibration problem..
