Today I.....

Set myself a challenge to get to the magic 700 miles from my 34L tank in the 1.2 at just prior to the halfway mark.

Here’s hoping the good weather continues as I’ve a couple of solo long runs in over the next couple of days. 🤞

I love a bit MPG games. What's your optimal cruising speed?
I'm experimenting these days as I have a 168 mile daily round trip.
About 57.

Though the best bit of my usual daily run economy wise is on the way down from the Air Balloon roundabout toward Gloucester. As it’s a big drop, if I time it right and have nothing in front of me, I can freewheel from 20mph up to in excess or 80mph using only the gradient and as it’s even downhill ‘on flat’ I can go for circa 3 miles freewheeling at over 60mph before needing to apply any throttle to maintain 60mph on the dual carriageway section. 😊

It does have the potential to irritate other road users though who would prefer to be going at over 20mph at the top of the hill 😬

You must be way more patient than me. I'm currently trying an indicated 66 which is the balance between an extra 5 mins in my bed at the expense of MPG.
My traffic is zero going to work but slow sections on the way home. I'm currently on track for around 65mpg with a TDI 90 (mapped) which is still pretty good I think.

Really good I’d say. Well done.

I’ve a three year old so the extra 5 minutes in bed wouldn’t be at all restful tbh! 🤣

Fitted another set of pepperpots. Every one of the tyres on the set I bought recently needed the air topped up every few days, so another set now fitted that popped up locally as an interim fix while I sort out some new tyres and a refurb.

So things looked promising for the magic 700 at the 500 mile point

However after the first leg of a 180 mile round trip to a wedding things look less positive now

Plus my wife got very cross with me when I referred to the ‘additional ballast’ as potentially being a contributing factor 😬 It’s about 90 miles to get home so the return journey with a sore head in the morning could be interesting!!!

Not just elctrickery cars that can generate range anxiety when playing petrol station roulette. 😉

The fuel gauges on both of mine aren't really linear. Especially if I vent the tank when fuelling (note: for diesels only!) then I've done about half of the mileage by the 3/4 mark that I will have done by the time I get the three beeps of doom :)

Ah but then when do you fill up once the bong has sounded? It’s been proven you can comfortably go many miles beyond 0 miles’ range - so 700 miles is not going to be a problem, but will your nerve hold Erling? 🫣

Worked out a cheap fix if your RNS-E has a temperamental CD eject where leading edge of disc catches rear top of the fascia slot.

Pull out unit. Remove three small screws on top of top metal cover (two at front, one at centre rear) and two larger screws from left and right side. Remove top cover. Cut out a rectangular section of plastic milk carton. Feed through fascia slot and duck tape one end to plastic overlay on top of CD drive. Trim to length, leaving a little of the other end protruding slightly from front of slot so you don't slip the CD over the top of it. Replace cover etc. Voila - RNS-E now happily ejects discs again:

You could probably get away with using a bit less duck tape than I did though...

At Castle Combe Circuit, German Performance day and spotted these lovely wheels!
