Today I.....

Got my A2 insured, a brilliant black 2002 TDI 75 with neptune blue cloth seats. It's been sat there about a month while i've done a few little jobs on it. I've got a set of alloys on their way in the next couple of days and then i'll start using it for work. I couldn't justify using the 2 tonne wagon doing 30 odd mpg to take me to work any longer at today's fuel prices.

How long before it becomes a project Steve

Lighter nights, warmer weather, less wind and rain.
(Currently looking for a new role, Quality H & S manager as well 😲😭) Long story.

Phase 1 completed at last (just wheel arch trims to put back in) Rear axle stripped wire brushed to metal, corrosion treated & hammerite coated & waxoiled. New brake kit & drums, brake pipes & handbrake cables renewed.
New Bilstein rear springs with top & bottom cups
Modified PowerFlex rear axle suspension bushes fitted (Thanks to Paul @ PowerFlex).
New fixings torqued + 90 degrees when on floor.

Onto Phase 2 The Front end for a similar refurb.

How it got through its last MOT before I bought it last year!!! 😳
It still had an original rear brake drum on one side with 138K on the clock, leaking rear brake cylinders and shortened rear springs.

Images taken with fixings in place but not torqued up.

Took my new commuter to work for the first time. I haven't driven an A2 for about 6 months or even a manual car come to that. I had a great time :) I certainly felt like i'd driven to work anyway.

Now this is 100% not going to be a project car, but i think a set of coilovers wouldn't go amis to tighten things up a bit, and the switchgear could do with some refreshing, and if those TT brackets group buy ever takes off I may as well fit a pair of heated TT's to the front and.... NO MUST RESIST

Anyway here's the obligatory photo and a thanks to @2work for sorting me out with a pair of free foglight covers.

Not going to be a project car. 😂🤣🤣🤣

Very nice looking car, wheels suit it. Seeing the rear spring cups get ground off when @Jason_e fitted JOM blueline to his rescue A2 Im reluctant to fit coilovers, is it really necessary to cut the spring cups? HOwever I would like less wooden suspension myself

No not at all, you can just use a longer bolt through the bottom spring holder.
As above really. Part of me wishes I did because I could get the rear higher then, but equally the over-nervous engineer in me didnt like the weight of the springs sat on such a small surface area (I'm 99% sure its absolutely fine, by the way).... nor did I have a bolt the right length to hand so... Choppy choppy 😂

Didn't even realise there was a bolt for spring cups, just thought they sat there! Shows what i know.

Is that as blocked solid as it looks?!
Not really.
If you use the best quality synthetic oil, you won't get much gunk, as it will contain few volitile compounds. It's these that condense in the oil separator.
Mac.
Since all the servicing has been done by the previous owner by an Audi dealer, the spec oil was in. Now, I have Aral Hight Tronic 5W-40, but I think that also this is not fully synthetic. I was thinking about fully synthetic Motul 5W-30, but this could be overkill and could lead to higher oil consumption and also in the summer is more like a soup...

Quantum which is the VAG OEM oil in mine. As used by Audi workshops. The oil separator is, considering it's been undisturbed in about 20 years, and quite a few miles, is not bad at all. Previous services at Audi would have used Quantum.
Quantum used to be made by Castrol, but, since 2018, it's made by Fuchs UK.
