Excellent work, doesn’t look the most fun job….had a 1.2 TDI come to visit and I also removed an FSI wiring loom for George Hogg

Last time I removed one I said I wouldn’t do it again, but then again I said the same about having kids and now I’ve got 3

Whose is that one? Is it Cobalt Blue or black?
is he a member here? The new owner of the red one has been trying to put a register together of all uk cars was why I enquired.Belongs to Michael, it’s black.
Fantastic to see another 1.2! I’m the red one… @Richard_3L Currently a rolling project to put it back to 100% as nature intended. Once I’m happy it serviceable and I won’t do damage to it I do hope I’ll get to meet you guys in person.is he a member here? Excellent work there! So finally I got some alone time with my A2:
1. Replaced the dog bone (fitted Lemforder 36324 01 - it is 100% identical to the original one) - I was hoping very very much that this will solve the annoying rattle - but it did not I have "taken good care" of all bolts I removed.
So it is 3:0 for the rattle - oil pump chain replaced, aux belt tensioner replaced, dog bone replaced - and no effect
2. Removed earth wire for the starter motor - it was corroded at chassis side (the car started well before this, but it could start better) [I hope person that designed the place for the chassis connector will have a special place in hell].
3. I have added additional earth connection for the wiper motor (this was a preventive action) - and here I am most surprised - the wiper is now moving noticeably faster ... (the grease there is vaseline).
4. I have greased wiper linkage mechanism - just to let it work better.

Thans for reply - but I have already replaced the altrnator pulley, the belt and tensioner - with no effectExcellent work there!
One thing that could be causing the rattle is the alternator pulley. Definitely worth checking and replacing if it hasn't been changed already as eventually it will shear off completely which isn't nice
Be interesting to see if you notice any consumption improvements DaveHad a straight through stainless steel back box made up and fitted with the emphasis on it being OE quiet and more MPG. There is a slight burble on tickover but other than that they've done as I've asked with additional baffling.
That sounds like somethings closer to ££££Timing belt and waterpump, full service, thermostat and temp sensor, injector seals, O/S outer CV joint and new discs and pads on.
How come?Today I sold my lovely Ebony black 90 Tdi Sport with full Votex kit, red sports leather and 17" diamond cut Le man alloys
