Today I.....

Actually I'm quite confident it'll live at the moment, you can see how well the CCU cleaned up, unfortunately the before/after pictures were uploaded the wrong way round.
I think the phrase “ rather you than me “ comes to mind. Good luck

This is a delayed post, due to a busy weekend.
On Friday I paid a visit to Tom (@2work), met him for the first time. What a cracking, knowledgeable and thoroughly nice guy he is. Any of you that have dealt with him will already know this.
He swapped our front door cards over (mine is now wearing his famously dyed EUD ones, from his thread).
He also VCDS scanned mine and sorted a few issues.
Thank you Tom, you're a top guy.

Morning Al,

It was a pleasure to meet you and glad I was able to help out. Fingers crossed for a cold snap to see if the Webasto now fires up. You’re welcome anytime when you’re in the neighbourhood.

Kind regards,

Tom

That's good news. I'll edit the post to present the pictures in a better order.

Don't forget the insides of the doors. The doorcards should be OK, if a little softened on the bottom edges, but the lower speakers with their paper cones will surely be toast? (soggy toast at least). Luckily those are not in short supply. I think the connectors from doors to car would have stayed above the waterline, they are greased anyway so might be OK even if not. Good luck, fingers firmly crossed.

Yes, oddly the speakers seem to have survived, well at least they made a noise when the radio came on, will check that again.

Collected three battery packs today. The chap in the suppliers was far from convinced they'd fit.

Today I got a MOT pass - only had the car 9 months!!
I bought the car cheap as a dooer-upper to keep it on the road, but it needed a lot more doing to it thank I thought (and life got in the way a bit)
(it's a 1.4 Petrol 2002)
Still, now on the road and looking forward to a summer of A2 ownership :D

This morning I've had a bonding session with my Cobalt FSI. I've more than quadrupled the total distance I've driven her, and had a good play with the right-hand side of the rev counter. She obviously likes me too as I was rewarded with a smiling yellow EML a short while later  just in time for the MOT next week  !

However, 10 minutes after getting back home and watching @timmus' extremely useful video the issue was sorted by fitting the ProBoost ECU I grabbed when the chance came up recently. At some point it would be interesting to scan the original ECU to find out what the fault was.

Today I got a clean MOT pass for the FSI, but it wasn't just a case of straight in and out. The EML had come back on again en route to the Silverstone meal even with the ProBoost ECU. It had turned off the EML on initial installation because as a 'new' ECU, it had no codes stored. Before that, during and since a very wet 20-mile drive, I have also been getting ABS coming up with the beeps of doom and the big red flashing exclamation mark on any right-hand bends that I don't tiptoe round, but that clears on setting off after the next engine start.

A scan by the garage pre-MOT came up with the following codes before clearing them:

Engine ECU
17580: 035 Throttle pedal position sensor B low input
16518: 035 O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 no activity detected
16523: 035 O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 slow response

ABS ECU
00290: 008 Left rear ABS sensor implausible signal
00290: 003 Left rear ABS sensor mechanical malfunction

I'll keep an eye on both issues but I think it's time I booked in with WOM, I'm due a service on time grounds if not mileage, ditto the cambelt.
