Today I.....

I suspect the insurance group will make it too expensive once she has passed her test and it'll need to be an Aygo or similar.
The next child is 17 next Jan so I figure teaching the kids to drive is a fitting role for the A2

It's like we are being priced off the roads slowly. Maybe that's why there are some many without tax, mot's and insurance on the road. If & when they are caught the car is scrapped & they just go out and buy another cheap car. It works out cheaper in the long run. Or I'm I being cynical 🤔

I think you're on the money. How many have bought an A2 as a "cheap" runaround. Ultimately nothing much is cheap and 20 year old cars need TLC.
I'm no mechanic but I like to have a go myself. If my car needed a garage everytime there was work to be done it would have been written off three times over.
An A2 with 170k miles and a bit scruffy like mine will never be worth much so it's my emotional connection that keeps it on the road.
If you don't have that feeling you'd never spend the time or money keeping it going.
Now, whos got a cobalt blue FSI with a sunroof that's needing some work to get it back on the road...

Hello all,

Today I… Removed the number plates from the Project OEM A2, they were a bit dirty and didn’t want to wash the whole car.

Whilst there I rememberd that I had a V778 dropped off yesterday:

After a few minutes of updating legal matters I was able to put clean number plates back onto the car, but this time a not so OEM.

There are a few more updates to come over the following weeks for this brilliant A2.

Kind regards.

Tom

Thank you David,

It puts a smile on my face Sir. I’ll get improved pictures soon enough once they’re polished up and hopefully with the new exterior look of the OEM A2.

Kind regards,

Tom

Today I visited Hef. We were discussing A2's and he showed me his Yellow CS. Its a Tdi on 180k, still with the original factory Cam Belt, minus the chunk thats come off! Was still running!

OMG. He needs to pick the lottery number and bet on every horse race running
That is the luckiest escape I have ever seen

Just to clarify, Hef heard an intermittent flapping sort of noise at idle. He removed the belt covers, and found as shown!

I've just scanned my car and VCDS came up with the usual 2 fault codes, as shown -

It transpires the garage that I took my car to for it's MOT (but refused to do it) unwittingly did me a favour.
They are the ones that thought it was the PAS support Pump, but said that I should take it to a specialist garage.
That evening when the wife and I went to collect it the battery was fully flat. Home to collect jump leads (only about 4 miles), tried to jump start. Nothing, the battery was proper flat.

Home again to collect my rigid towing bar. A short white knuckle tow home for the wife (she tells me she loves Alton Towers rides, but that was something else!).
Back home, off with the battery, had it on charge overnight. Fully charged next morning, but with a steady slow voltage drain.
New battery purchased and fitted. But if the garage hadn't flattened the battery I would have never have suspected it. Seems like the alternator had it's work cut out charging the battery that it might have been cutting power to the PAS pump.
Steering is still heavy, I'm hoping this is because the tracking is way out.

The scan was taken
When was the scan taken as the battery voltage of 12.2 - 12.3 is low, very low if the engine is running.
Mac.

The scan was taken with engine and ignition off, Mac.
That's the newly bought battery as supplied, with minimal alternator charge, and a couple of times starting.

Today I used the power of YouTube to work out how a relay can be tested.

12 volt & ohms in one ear out the other.
That's how I start my day.
(This is not a 'how to', possibly a how-not-to)
