Today I.....

i didnt take any photos yet but over the past two weeks i have changed my bose speakers, refurbed my alloys (mk1 tt 7j) with toyo proxes and changed my number plate to my private one :D

lets just say my plate is a good old scottish plate and big jock would be proud ;) while on the subject of number plates what is the best solution to attach plates to bumpers? i was hoping that the screw holes from my dads would be in the same place....how wrong was i :/

i now need to order a new plates due to screw holes (more centre) on the old plates and the four screw holes in the corners of my car.

...finally got around to replacing my anti-roll bar bushes. :p

It was easy enough to do, and I'm pleased that it's finally done. Unfortunately, I noticed the N/S outer CV boot has a complete split around it's circumference and the inner CV boot has a small split beginning. I will, of course, change both, but as the N/S inner CV joint has always had play since I've owned the car, this will be replaced too. :)

Regards,

Matt.

300kms on what passes for a roads around here... lovely. No roll, no car sickness, no drama. The way I like it.
Was going to wash and clay / wax tomorrow but the diy hall has disappeared :-( +23 is perfect for Collinite...

Two bolts, holes drilled right into bumper...

hi darko,

my dads a2 has similar screw holes like yours but mines has a screw hole in all corners. i need new plates due to the screw holes not used plus they look worn and horrible. maybe the holes are age related as mines is a 2003 and not a 2000/2001 :/

there's no 'pattern' position on the front bumper the plate is screwed directly into the bumper. I'd suggest a new set of plates. Thoroughly clean off all the crud that'll have collected behind the plate and lightly fill the existing screw holes with silicone . Then apply your new plate with double sided pads you can buy from Halfords. As long as both surfaces are clean you're laughing. This method is unwise if you intend buying plate holders at some point. then just use the existing screw holes or create new ones. It's all hidden anyway. You can't damage anything in behind there as long as you use small length screws - again pukka plate screws with coloured covers available in motoring shops.

Rear is a bit more complex as there's a foam padding and the screw holes are provided with plastic plugs which you screw into. Some people clean off the foam padding and stick the rear plates on too. I've no idea how to replace the plastic sockets in the tailgate so maybe sticking them on is your best option. Clean surfaces is the key here.

As impressed as I was with the ride quality after fitting Bilstein B4's and Eibach springs to my FSi. I have now fitted Bilstein B8's with the Eibach's and the ride and handling has been transformed to another level. It's absolutely lovely to drive, so composed, flat around corners and doesn't get upset driving over undulations and pot holes.

Stunning dampers and well worth the money.

Today I finished off the install of the heated seat switches. I bought A8 switches which have a clipped on fascia of their own and the switches clip into the standard cubby like they were made to fit so I have modified the standard cubby for the moment rather than buy the narrow one. You can't see the wiring and I think they look pretty oem;

Cammy, I wouldn't worry about the old holes, the new plate should cover them. I have 4 old holes behind my front plate, but I'm glad whoever mounted the old plate frames was clever enough to use the mounting holes on the boot door :)

Perfect! That hole is useles anyway.

Today I... Realised my OAP was seized (Over-running Alternator Pulley) so £55 lighter I've ordered a new pulley and torx bit - hopefully it is straightforward to fit - is it a LH or RH thread?

.. I got back from a 500km+ weekend away in the lakes of Eastern Finland. We know the area, we've been there an awful lot in the past, so I took the gear as I knew I'd have time... and I really did get to clean the car.

much to my surprise, this came off it .... it's Bilt Hamber clay - awesome stuff, just don't dry the car and then clay it, really easy and fast. I don't remember when I clayed it last, can't be more than a year ago. Meh.

then it was off to the forest to enjoy the noises of the car scrubbing the central grass all the way down from the main road, scraping on a rock on the main road and do the work we were here to do... but the now-shiny car got to hide in its natural habitat:

returned less than two hours later to this:

yes, that's bird poop.... <sigh> ;)

But it looks worse today after all the flies on the way home, so I'm not too worried. Need to add another layer of Collinite anyway at some point soon. Will also have to machine polish at some point, there really are some marks now after 14 years.

We also took a diversion to Kerimäki and Punkaharju - site of the world's largest wooden church and a national park (google it, the photos are awesome!), respectively, and the road from Kerimäki through Ruokolahti was one of the first tests of the A2 with B8s, Eibachs, H&R ARBs and Superpros all round while close to laden and on the typical poorly-surfaced curve-rich backroads that are exceedingly common in this country. It performed really well. The road home via Sulkava was just as good, with the A2 inducing zero carsickness at speeds which would have seen significant bottoming-out with the old FSDs and issues from the back seat.

Very happy with the suspension decision. Consumption average is also down to 6,2 from 6,6, which makes this trip's average around 5.8l/100 or 48mpg. Not too bad at all.

Stunning bodywork and my favourite 15" wheels. If that is just a wash, I can't wait to see post polish pictures.

Must be the northern light ;-) It actually was done in 15 min with a cheap shampooed sponge.

Next week kayaking.

Changed the water temperature sensor and thermostat, and gave the engine a good wash. Happy to see the running temp back up at 90 again :)

I also realized the AC is not working! The system is charged properly and showing no leaks, but the compressor won't turn on. No fault codes either since I changed the G263 a while back.

Simon, post #932 it will be very tight, I had to take my alternator off on my galaxy as not enough access to get special tool in,
Check new pulley for thread direction, I through the old one away when we moved in February.

Yeah was expecting it will be frizzing tight - think there should be enough access without taking the alternator off although might have to unclip the intake hose.

Thanks,

Simon.
