I have VCDS Lite, but haven't worked out how to use it yet. Would be happy to be included on this register.

However, I need someone with a full fat version to recalibrate my Throttle Body and Inlet Manifold Flaps on my 1.6FSI.

Car is not currently MOT'd so I need someone who would be prepared to come to me in North Surrey (happy to pay fuel costs or make a charitable donation).

Could the Free Scan Register be updated/amended to also state whether the member would be prepared to travel, or only do it at their own location? Could be very helpful for people like me.

Bren
A licensed copy of VCDS Lite will do that.
Mac.

I wasn't sure that was the case as the terminology on the Ross-Tech website wasn't entirely clear (to me). Probably worth the £80 then, as this FSI is for my 78 year old Dad, and I will be maintaining it for him assuming I can get it running right.

Definitely an essential tool, on any A2, especially an FSI!
Your Dad's only got a couple of years on me ...

Good Afternoon Ben,

Thanks for the offer but I think it best to wait until you have registered your VCDS Lite, please let me know when you have. You will find it is very easy to run Autoscan, that is all that is required to offer members.

I think the travel option is best discussed with a member directly. In the case of SORN cars. I expect many register members would help out if needed, but there are so many variables, time, distance, cost I would be loathe to add a general layer of complication within the Register.

Andy

I have VCDS Lite, and like many don't know all the in and outs of it yet but would happily offer it to anyone who's nearby. I'm in Haslemere which is sort of technically West Sussex but is right on the border of Hampshire and Surrey too.

We have VCDS unlimited VIN, based in Staines TW18. Happy to help, although Adam is the guru of this, not me. Come and have your OSS serviced and a free scan LOL.

A kind offer Ian, and it is my intention to get the OSS serviced once car running, but currently SORN and a few issues to resolve before MOT time. Will probably register my VCDS-Lite and learn to do my own adaptations, and then offer the scan service to other members in my area. Might still get you to scan it when I get the OSS done though, just in case I have missed something as a total novice.

Hi Andy

Does VCDS Lite have to be registered to even run a scan?

I have just received my £20 Gendan Cable and I was under the impression that even if just for my own purposes, I can now scan for issues (otherwise what is the point of VCDS Lite?).

I understood it that I can scan with Lite, but not carry out the adaptations that I need until I've registered the product with Rosstech for another £80 or so (for up to three VINs)?

Is this not the case?

Rgds

Good Afternoon Brendan,

I have never had VCDS Lite but my understanding is that you can scan with UNregistered Lite but piecemeal, fault code numbers will be shown but with explanatory output text withheld, which then needs translating on the Ross-Tech website. Still usable but cumbersome (deliberately) whereas registered Lite Autoscan does the whole lot as well as extra functionality such as adaptations, key coding etc.

Aaah Ok, that makes some sense I guess. I am planning to register my Lite, but might have a play first without being registered and see what's possible, then register it and compare. Thanks for putting me straight!

That's about right, but it'll run an Auto Scan, and unless you have loads of DTCs, (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), in which case, you clear all DTCs, an scan again, as most of them will be historical, the lack of labels is not to much of a problem.
The cable you use has no bearing on the functionality, (of Lite), just that the Gendan cables use a genuine chip, while ebay cables use clone chips. I have both, and they both work fine.
Unlicensed gives you a descriptor "lable" for the first DTC in each controller, so, not to bad. Start off with the free version, learn your way around, then upgrade as and when.
Mac.

Just circling back to this thread to say I’m fully open for business on the scan register now that I’ve got my VCDS up and running - with my first happy customer @Ghengis who today came and used it to do a full scan and fix his steering fault! The look on his face when it was fixed was priceless!

Are there any other members lurking around with the correct setup but who are not on the scan register? It’s very rewarding to be able to help someone out and save them some money (ie. “Pay it forward”), especially at the moment whilst the cost of living is rising so steeply.

Hi Please let me know if anyone can check a FSI for me near Eastbourne before or at weekend ?

Thanks

For those who have signed up just a chance to comment on where I have put you on a UK map that will be part of the Free Scan Register. This was not a precision process!, all done by eye. Hopefully you can work out who you are!!!

New additional members welcome, reply to the RSVP at the top of the thread.

Andy could the map be attached to the first post in this thread for ease of reference?

Good Afternoon,

Normally a member requesting a scan would take their car to the scan register member, it is asking a lot lot more to ask them to travel for what I imagine is just inspecting a car for sale.

There are two members on the scan register roughly near Eastbourne by I would not have the audacity to ask. Details here ....

Good Afternoon David,

Thank you for your suggestion. I would prefer to keep the register in one place for simplicity. However I take your point and have added a link to the register in the first post.

Long overdue for a fresh recruitment drive for the register I think but I am tied up with the FSI ECU label file project at the moment but it will happen.
