Chat What are your a2 plans and projects for 2022?

Since in the last 18 months I’ve bought 2 A2’s and referbed them both with all new cam belts suspension, etc both fully serviced inc 1 clutch/ flywheel, all faults sorted and all missing/worn bits replaced inc a few mods like auto lights, glove box fixes and dual fog/boot lights, I’m starting to wind down a bit but of course it never stops

I need to finish the cruise on the wife’s 90Tdi and I’ve got nearly all the bits for a rear disc brake conversion on my ‘75. Then I really need to look at getting both the EGR’s milled out as they’re both mapped. TT style pedals might appear to compliment the superb A2 footrests I still need to fit. Then I’m on to other superb mods mentioned on this forum…..

Andy

Let me know when you are ready for the machined out egr valves

Put the car back on the road by may 2022 as a weekend car after 8 years of not using it. Electrical gremlins were resolved in 2021, mechanical (mainly maintenance items) are next. After that tackle optical issues.

Not much as mine (Pootle) is just a "bangernomics" type car. That said a new clutch is needed very soon or ill end up stuck somewhere. Other than that it needs a very good interior clean and maybe some cup repair/replacement of cup hodlders. Oh and the seat belts need cleaning as they dont retract.

A 75 is much better with rear drums. Discs will make it float at the rear.

Hi Phil,

Sorry not sure what you mean by ‘float’ are drums assembly’s much heavier or will the back just feel lighter under breaking?I do really value your opinion, I know it’s not really a performance mod, I just have a spare 90 axle that I was looking to refurbish with new bushes, pipes, cables and splash plates, I also find calliper’s and discs easier to maintain to be honest than drums, even though drums may actually be better suited, so I could keep all the bits as spares for my 90 and save myself a bit of work ? I should also mention it’s mapped, I’m a fairly enthusiastic driver and the discs on our 90 are always kept clean of rust ?

Did you not see in my profile i am from Yorkshire? How much!! Lol!

Read a thread a few years ago and the 1.9 sounds like a proper headache but if i had the time and space would seriously consider it however my remapped 75 is enough power for me, ultimate economy whilst keeping it cost effective always wins the day for me!
I’m Scottish, from Aberdeen. You Yorkshire men are loose with your money by comparison! Get a six speed in there! It’ll save you engine wear and tear and fuel Lol

Refurbished Callipers x4, new flexi brake lines, wheels refurbished and badges glossed in black.

ATL, 90. Just nothing under load(hills) and I'm surrounded by them in Cornwall. Only been like it in last two months but Christmas budget didn't allow for work hence just been plodding along with it (slowly at times) getting used to what it will and won't do and how far to push it without going into limp mode. Tends to be above 2.2k revs under load for more than 15sec's. Will rev well past that under load for short bursts.
If not black smoking (so no boost leak) it could very possibly be the N75- turbo boost control valve/solenoid or its pipework. The turbo vanes could be sticking but i have known plenty of misdiagnosed turbo replacements for the sake of the N75!

Hi, thanks there's lots of conspicuous black smoke under load. However checked the lower post intercooler metal pipe as suggested. Found it was ok the the upper metal section of piping had sheared off its bracket making the rubber joint to the anti shudder gape. Fixed it back in place and has been fine since. (Touch wood).
Iv had the sticking turbo before and it felt remarkably similar, which was my first diagnosis and chucked two tank fulls of turbo clean at it, and give it a run up the A30 (closest thing to a motorway for two counties!)
Thanks again

Just done a weekend in Yorkshire from Cornwall 750 miles in total. Foolish maybe but trust bluey to keep on keeping on over the last 10yrs!
Didn't miss a beat ;) sluggish for first HR than fine. Hopefully problem sorted and here's to the next ten years ?

Hi,

My plans are:

- replace standard 15" rims for original 17" sport
- replace old standard suspension for sport suspension
- install cruise control
- send the ECU to proboost and update the software
- install an arm rest
- try to install a 2 DIN multimedia system, parking sensor and camera
- install a ODB2 reader and used it as a trip computer:
https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005...=glo2esp&spm=a2g0o.9042311.0.0.2c2d63c0EfIic8
- Injectors service
- Maybe paint the rear spoiler with the original color and not black

And for my xmas present I got an oil consumption that i will have to fix. I belive that is one valve seal that is not i a good condition because i can see one spark plug that it's bad. I cannot understand the reason since the car only has 73.000km. I will try to use 5w-40 instead of 5w-30 and i will try the rislone oil seal as well. I don't want to open the engine :(

Salut!

Sadly my project will be to sell the A2 as it is just not getting used enough!!
So Chapter 2 of A2 ownership will come to an end......

I’ve just bought a parking sensor control unit and beeper - @timmus i fear another item to add to the list when I get to you - it will be this year!!
