Chat What are your A2 plans for 2018?

So far 2018 has seen a gentle 10 mile circuit round (and round) the village with engine flush in - shifted a lot of sludge out. Took sump off to clean out any sludge reside and check oil filter screen. Barely a ghost of old sealant left on the sump flange - back on with a good bead of fresh sealant and engine is so much quieter. Oil & filter change, then fitted spare set of petrol injectors which had been serviced and ultrasonically cleaned - running a lot better with those on.

If you're tackling the sump Laser tools do a 30cm long 5mm allen key on a 1/2 socket for £9 - money well spent, especially for the two really hidden sump bolts tucked away beside the gearbox / clutch. For any bolts with stripped allen key slots hammer a socket over the head of the bolt to crack them off. Replacement bolts are M6 x 22 (£1.25 for 5 off fleabay) and VW alloy sump sealant is part number 030.792 or D176404A2.

Next up is belts & camshaft cover off to track down noisy hydraulic lifter. 145K on engine so probably time to replace all 16. That's assuming I can drill out the two sheared off stretch bolts left in cover from previous owner...

Fit my Mk1 Audi TT front leather seats .
Figure out how to wire the switches to get the heated seats working.
Then just enjoy driving it !!

Timmus is the man for that but he is a tad busy these days. There is a loom that you can buy it is not too tricky to fit (if you know basic electrics) the loom is a bit long but is one that will fit the A2. I bought it from Kufatech I think.

And if you don't mind sanding a bit of plastic I have a hard touch double DIN climate panel with inbuilt heated seat switches (all standard) that you could use.

This is the part, it came from an A4 but I have determined that the faceplate mounts directly on an A2 climate unit.

All that it needs is a bit if sanding to get the shape to match the A2 opening. There is not much to take off and it is basically the same process that you would use to get an A4 RNS E unit to fit.

I will need to check that I still have all of the buttons (the unit and buttons are all hard touch) but I do have the proper A2 switches for the heated seats. You can pay £175 for the A2 version on ebay, I could let you have it and try it first and then let me know if you want it (Steve B's prices of course) you only need to pay if it works out ok and you are happy with the fit.

It is up to you.

Oh man. I got one of these made for me. I feel bad now - the poor guy had to hand build it. it worked with my A3 switches so connectors were the same.

Hoping to get my number plates fitted that Lee bought me for Xmas the year before last. Not much but I am definitely sure I will be doing more ;)
