255 miles from one tank after driving carefully..

In the old days (when the A2 was being sold) they used to quote 3 figures, urban/56mph/75mph. If the urban 6.86/100Km is the correct Audi claim then it would be very optimistic! In those days everyone used to think the quoted urban figure was a joke (not just for the A2). I didn't use Google but I thought 34 MPG looked optimistic, so I didn't check which gallon they were using. 41 MPG is an even more outlandish claim.

On the Parkers Guide site it just says 47 MPG. I seem to remember reading somewhere that this was the 56 mph figure for the 1.4, so are they claiming this as an average? If so, I doubt that is achievable by the majority.

For information my 1.4 Sport with lighter 15" wheels and low rolling resistance tyres, running always on VPower 99 shows on my Timmus DIS:

37 MPG at an average of 24 mph over 4829 miles.
Hi Providence ... maybe not relevant as the OP is discussing his FSI but my 1.4 BBY still gets at least 450 miles on a 37 litre fill up ... I have been gauging mpg this way for as long as I've owned the car ... hopefully my O level maths is still good and that would work out at 55 miles per imperial gallon or 5.2l/100km.
The figure increases to 470 on a motorway drive but usual for me is A and B country roads. What I have discovered recently though is that the speedo reads higher than the sat nav and this would have a negative effect on the true figures, assuming the sat nav is more accurate.

I occasionally do an 80 mile round trip on A and B roads and get 50-55 mpg (depending on roadworks and the level crossing). I drove to Sainsbury's on Friday, a 3 mile round trip with three restarts and got 24.9 mpg.

I think the point I was originally trying to make is that it is difficult to comment on other people's mpg without actually spending a month with them in their car! That's why I was making the point about urban driving. London urban is probably a lot worse than urban in smaller towns with fewer obstacles like huge empty cycle lanes ;).

I use this for MPG

You need to brim the tank each time for it to be accurate. Allowing the tank to vent via the lever in the filler neck if your car has one

Not a silly statement…… but make sure handbrake is fully off🧐. mine was on a notch or two and handbrake light indicated it was off… so you can inadvertently have your handbrake on👍

Can also have it adjusted badly so if drags

Apropos of nothing but I've just topped up our 1.4 TDI after a 400 mile run up to @timmus and back on Wednesday. 362 miles between fuel stops, 21.33 litres used, which I believe gives an mpg of 77! Quite pleased with that if I'm honest.

I find my TDi90 will average around 70mpg if driven at 60-65mph on mostly gently undulating fast roads - and because the tall sixth gear means the engine is only turning at 1800rpm, it doesn’t make sense to go any slower as the car won’t do any better than this.

77mpg is very impressive indeed.

I’m running ProBoost on my FSi and mostly town driving (average speed 18mph according to the possibly slightly out DIS) and I’m getting a pretty solid 39.1mpg via Fuelly.

Has anyone else noticed if E10 petrol is less efficient than E5 returning fewer miles per gallon?
Not complaining, the car feels and drives great but I've noticed since E5 is no longer available that I'm only getting 430 compared to 450 miles until the warning beep (42 litre tank).
I think that works out at around 54 mpg ... still, not too bad for a nearly 200k 1.4 BBY 🤓

E10 has a bit less energy per litre, compared with E5, because alcohol has lower energy than petrol, so expect mpg to be down a bit, as you'll use a little bit more fuel to be extract the same power.
E5 is supposed to be widely available, and there's no problem on the mainland.
Mac.

Thanks Mac, about six months ago it disappeared from the pumps (County Down) ... admittedly I only use the same three stations on my usual routes but a couple of mpg isn't too bad ... I'm happy as long as it keeps running well 😁

Just to add my FSI fuel stats to this:

I do around 38/40 miles a day 5 days a week commuting in my A2. This is done 90% on a 50mph road. If I brim it to the max with super at the start of the week, and I can normally get 9/10 days out of it depending on traffic conditions. It’s around 380 to 400 miles over the 2 weeks on a full tank. I do normally throw 5 litres into it as well towards the end of the second week - just as a safety buffer - but it’s not strictly necessary to get a the full 2 weeks out of 1 tank.

I also run it in ‘van mode’ with the rear 3 seats, false floor and boot cover all removed 👍🏻
