Automatic light + Coming / Leaving home

Yes perfect! I just tried it again and it works fine! It wasn't dark enough earlier. I Love the kit just wish we could do something better with the symbols, it sits back a bit and my old ones are worn :(

Couldn't help but post this sneaky picture of after I washed it this morning. Damn she shines up good! This was only a wash and dry!

:)

It shouldn't be sitting back any, it should be exactly as the old one was. Did you manage to get it to clip into the old slots ok?

(Also remember that if you want to get the switch out again you will need to remove the chrome trim around the switch so that you can press the switch in enough to turn it to release it.)

Im going to buy one of these kits!

This is now my favourite mod, it has just eased the rear cupholder into second place!

Also, people have asked on here if the A2 can be set to have headlamps on permanently, as in European countries. With this kit it is possible! Just hide the sensor / tape over it. Hey presto" European headlamps on automatically with the ignition!!!

Steve B

Great! I think i have asked before, but can this be set to sidelights on all the time? Or is it still a wiring mod on the headlights?

You would have to play around with the wiring to achieve this and so I wouldn't recommend it.

Were you thinking about it operating DRLs perhaps?

Steve B

The plan would be...

Wire the sidelights up as always on with ignition on and set the auto device to sidelights on/off with the coming/leaving setting.

(My sidelights will eventually be replaced by LED DRLs)

Can you see how it sits in this picture? It's pushed in all the way, and I checked it was by looking at the back of it. Maybe the kit is slightly different to your or something?

It definetly makes the car feel more modern! I love it.

This is my old unit in the new surround, it's the opposit it sticks out!

The surround that comes with the kit is for a different model Audi and so it will appear different.

The picture of the new one in your A2 dash does look like it is a little bit further in that it should be.

When you put the new switch into the old surround you have to make sure that it is fully "home".

If it is not pushed into the fascia fully then it would look like yours.

Does the switch feel like it is secure?

Mine looks like this

Be careful,

If you connect your sidelights to the ignition live and then also connect your sidelights to the "coming home / leaving home" circuit, you might find that your ch/lh function is actually also making your ignition live at the same time (unless you fit a diode of some kind I think)

Yes it is secure its all clicked in properly, this kit says its for a golf maybe that's why? It doesn't bother me too much anyway.

Hi Scott,

It is probably fine then as you say.

I would be interested to hear if you prefer the "tunnel" function off or on, when you have had chance to try it properly.

Steve B

I think the closest tunnel to me is near Worthing so won't be testing that for a while!

Just realised Iv put all this on someone else's thread instead of the one I started!

Sorry....

You don't need a tunnel, just a bridge or narrow walkway and they might switch on.

I don't mind actually, but I go through one section of the M40 that has a few bridges within 100yards and I am sure any car in front thinks I am trying to "say" something!!!!

Your posts are relevant to the thread and so that is fine.

Steve B

How would I loose the tunnel option if it's too sensitive?

Actually it shouldn't be a problem because during the day I use my led side lights and fogs as drls.

Here in Sweden, dipped beams are mandatory, no matter the time of day. But if I had your auto dipped beams, I would be very happy if it didn't switch off. In other words, if it switches on while driving, I would want them to stay on until I stop the car and turn the ignition off. When I start the car again, the auto function can re-evaluate the darkness and decide if the beams should switched on.

As I just said in the post, I just realised how easy it would be to do what you asked. Just fit the kit and cover the sensor and hide it in the dash. That way the car thinks it is dark and so the dipped headlamps come on as soon as you switch on the ignition!!

Thanks Steve!
This is an interesting kit.
The manual mention main beams when it's even darker. Has anyone tried this? Will the kit give us auto switching off the main beams when meeting another vehicle?

Is it possible to make the coming home lights stay on longer? At the moment it's about 10 seconds?

Thanks

Scott

The instructions give you the way that the duration can be changed. I am not sure of what the maximum time is but it can be changed.

10 seconds is fine for me so I didn't change it.
I can't manage more than 10 seconds these days.

Keep hold of the new dial surround, there may be an option later.

The rough translation comes out something like this.

1. Auto-switching of low-beam and rear lights, when it´s dark. High beam switches on, when it´s even darker.
2. Automatic Coming/leaving home light-funktion
3. Plug and play installation (ok this was really obvious)

Switch functions

switch turning once vertical turning twice vertical

"0" off
"Auto" main lights
"low beam" city lights city lights and fog lights front city lights and fog lights (front and if present back)
"main lights" main lights main lights and fog lights front main lights (front and if present back)

Installation manual
1. Remove the old switch by turning it into "0" position and pushing the knob, then turn it clockwise 15 degrees to the left and pull it out.
2. Insert new switch: Connect the cable connection with the new switch and fix it. Turn the switch to the 2nd position, if fully functional low beam will turn on/off now.
3. Test: Cover the sensor with a fully light-tight object, front lights will light up for a second.
4. Search for a decent position for the sensor. Open up the fuse box and put out the sensor button. Glue it on the a-pillar, about 10 - 15 cm away from the roof, or where a-pillar and windsreen are joining. Please use hot glue for attachment.

Detailed installation manual

1. Before first use, please reset to factory adjustment. Adjustment as shown below:
"Auto -- 0 -- Auto -- 0 -- Auto" position lights and low beam flash, reset is done.
2. Power source for leaving home is position light, therefore replace this bulb (I think the fuse is meant here!) with a 20A, if you´re using Xenon-bulbs or your fog lights are consuming much power.
3. Red wire is the leaving home jumper and should be connected with the positive "+" of the flashing light. (Please do not connect to normal voltage, because otherwise fog lights and position light will constantly be on) (Ignore this you will probably not have a red wire)
4. Please make sure that the sensor is fixed at a well-lighted place
5. Unit will save light conditions when you turn on low beam. When it´s dark, use it like that: "Auto -- front light -- Auto -- front light -- Auto". Position and front lights will flash up once afterwards and current light conditions will be saved. If the current brightness is higher than the one at which the sensor is turning on the front lights, front light will not turn on by itself. If current light conditions are within saved conditions, front lights will turn on automatically.

I think the seller is mixing up several terms like "front lights", "low beam" and "position lights", not sure when to use which one.
The correct translation of parking light would be "Standlicht", low beam is "Abblendlicht" and high beam would be "Fernlicht".

Am I missing it? The instructions that came with my kit is all in Chinese
