So are we all driving bangers?
Rubbish.
Rubbish.
Lovely job. Great seeing work like this being done ?Last week I changed the brakes on my ATL. This was long overdue. I knew my handbrake mechanisms were faulty. Already changed the handbrake cables, but that was not the solution. So I bought new brake calipers door the rear axle from a VW golf Mk 4. These have slightly bigger pistons, 41mm vs 34mm to be exact. Painted them red to match the fronts. Those were the 312mm brakes into 288 Lucas calipers in order to use 15 inch rims again. Of course new discs and pads, brembo Max. Happy with the results?
I was going to say... 78.8mpg in a 1.2TDI is poor. Is the mileage in kilometers?Today I (well technically yesterday) broke the 260,000 mark in @Erlingtheelder ’s 1.2 tdi. ? It just needs the thermostat or temperature sensor changing to ensure it gets back to its optimum level of parsimoniousness.
Nope. Miles. The other one is Km but this one is a full Anglophile! ?I was going to say... 78.8mpg in a 1.2TDI is poor. Is the mileage in kilometers?
Make sure the wheel bolts are torqued to 120nm (not lb ft) in an opposite cross tightening pattern and your peace of mind should be restored ?Yesterday I swapped four summer wheels for winter wheels on the Lupo all by myself... For the first time, and now I am so afraid that one will fall off when I'm driving that I don't dare to get into the car anymore
Afternoon Iain,Today I fitted the Polo Gti alloys to the white Tdi, The 225 45 17's are very, very slightly rubbing on the rear splash guards but a couple of hundred miles they'll be fine Pleased with how the center caps turned out but I think I might also need some spacers so they fill the arches better

Thanks Tom I couldn't find Audi centre caps to fit and had the idea of using the ASF badges floating about in my head for a while but never had the need to try it till now ?Afternoon Iain,
Who doesn't absolutely love to see a White A2? The Polo wheels look fantastic and think the centre caps are pure genius. Very well done Sir.
Kind regards,
Tom
Hi Steve, I've ordered a set of those ones you recommended so we'll see what happens when I stick them on but I think I'll need to fit my 205 40's at the same time ?What offset are the alloys Iain? Being a polo i would get around the 52 mark? You could probably fit a good 20mm spacer with them if that is the case and that would bring them directly in line with the arch. Had a similar set fitted to my FSI for a while. View attachment 89479
You're very brave fitting 225/45 17 tyres on an A2, especially with wheels with a high offset and no spacers.Today I fitted the Polo Gti alloys to the white Tdi, The 225 45 17's are very, very slightly rubbing on the rear splash guards but a couple of hundred miles they'll be fine Pleased with how the center caps turned out but I think I might also need some spacers so they fill the arches better

Thanks but I've ordered spacers and have 205 40's sitting waiting to be fitted so the current set is purely temporary till the New year's pastYou're very brave fitting 225/45 17 tyres on an A2, especially with wheels with a high offset and no spacers.
The image below is what you'll soon end up with, especially on the drivers side rear and passenger side front, along with damaged tyres too!
Be careful ?
