A2 Cars MK - Another Fan !
I have owned my A2 (1.4 Petrol) 2001 for around 6 years and have just gone over 151,000 with very few issues. I know everyone harps on about the diesel but the 1.4 petrol has never ever given me any serious mechanic issues.
I fancied taking the car to a real expert this time, especially now the car is getting on in age so decided on A2 Cars as they are fairly close to where I work around Thame area.
Dropped Tony an email with my list of to do's and received a pretty quick response. After a phone call to confirm the booking on Sat 8th August I headed over to A2 Cars.
I must say I didnt know what to expect but I am so glad I decided on using A2 cars.
From entering the garage and see all these A2 cars everywhere ( I think I counted 16 ......maybe more) in various states of up keep and repair (some totally stripped out ).
Tony was a really friendly guy who knocked up my job card insisting all my to do's / requests were no issue whatsoever.
He went to work on my car and would pop back to confirm that the work was progressing nicely. After I had some coffee (nice machine in reception btw ) I popped into the garage area and looked underneath my A2 (I must have been like a kid asking Tony and Jack (Tony assistant) whats this , whats that do , what does this do, it just felt surreal seeing the car on the ramp and taking a really good look at what was underneath ) only to be explained that the car was solid and in really good condition for its age. Tony was clear in what may go in the next year or so and will need to be repaced ........just wear and tear items I was told.
It was missing an undertray which Tony said was no issue to replace and some correct spark plugs (apparently the A2 has different ones to other VWs / 1.4 petrol engine cars ) my niggle list was taken a look at. The steering issue was resolved (not aligned correctly by an Audi garage when the indicator stalk was replaced ) , the door straps were confirmed to still be good and OK , a few interior jobs were tackled (new glove box handle ) plus climate control buttons replaced, door was aligned slightly due to wind noise when driving on the motorway (no job was a big issue) and quickly knocked off. For some of these jobs Tony didn't even charge me.
Tony recommended I go across the road to the cafe when hungry so around mid-day popped in for a hot sausage & egg roll and tea (very nice too) . I spent the rest of my time just wondering around the A2 in his yard thinking how will they recover and repair this (my mind just boggled but Tony & Jack assured me ) these amazing cars would be brought back to life except one which was a write off ! I discussed with Tony that I thought I needed another car to take the 100 mile commute pressure of my pride and joy . Tony said for £2,500 - £3,000 just buy another A2 "you really cannot get a better car for the money " and he's right. What Tony knew about cars and A2's was something special yet he commented , "if I came to your work I wouldn't know anything but I am an expert with cars !" I thought and knew the car was in good hands and such a humble guy. Tony's A2 was a lovely machine and then his wife popped by with her nice blue coloured A2 (the only colour in the UK I was told ) again a really nice motor all polished up , ready for Audi's In The Park on the Sunday.
I suppose without rambling on .....................I cannot recomend A2 cars enough the car drove fantastically well whilst driving back to London (only took just over an hour so not as far as I thought) plus it just seems so smooth since receiving some expert TLC. The service cost was reasonable and whilst waiting it just felt like a day out for me rather than a chore , although all I was doing was getting the car serviced.
Tony was a great guy who I will visit again , soon to get a few mods done I think and just want to give him a good review and thumb ups - another A2 Cars fan.
See you soon Tony
