Forum Update Today

Hi Ben,

A minor issue that is becoming annoying, might be just me, with the Search (top right) using IOS running Safari on the iPad.

Touch/tap Search and a popup box appears, so far so good. The problem occurs next when I try to enter the search criteria by touching the entry field. The Search popup box disappears!!!! Try it half a dozen times and it works!

Just thought I have not updated IOS in sometime, maybe that's the problem.

Works fine for me, Andrew, on iOS 11.2.2

Hi Ian,

Thanks for that. Strangely it worked fine for me the first few times I used it, only misbehaving of late. Your IOS version is later than my 9.3.5, maybe that's the problem. I have researched and apparently I am on the highest IOS possible for my older processor. A cynic might say this is an Apple strategy to encourage the purchase of a new IPad.

Hi Ben,

Been testing my disappearing Search popup and I think it is a bug. Found it works fine before you enter a thread or at the top of a thread but once you scroll down the thread it starts misbehaving.

At least now I know how to make it work.

Might be your version of iOS.
I’ve tried scrolling down in a thread and hitting the search icon, still no problem here.

Thanks Ian and Ben. Looking like the IOS I am forced to have. Just got to live with it, not too worried as I know how to make it work - don't scroll before use.

Would be good if anyone out there using IOS 9.5.3 can confirm I am not making this up!

Here's the vendor's response:

"I have tried to reproduce the issue myself on iOS 9.3 in the XCode Simulator. I don't think I have an iOS 9.x device available to test it on a real device.

It is worth noting that due to its age we don't actually consider iOS 9.x being a platform that we are aiming to support at this stage.

Obviously if it's something we're able to reproduce reliably then we can attempt to ascertain whether it is fixable or whether it's just a browser issue that we're not able to workaround. If you're able to get any specific reproduction steps from the affected users then this may help."

Hi Ben

Thanks again for your efforts, I willl live with the bug - I have the work around. For anybody else who encounters this problem let me reiterate, if the Search popup disappears when you try to use it, the work around is to only use Search at the top of a thread.

Like their comment about unsupported due to age. Google tells me IOS 9 was released September 2015!! Glad I am not an elderly relative in their family.

Yes,

Just click on the INBOX on the menu (yes INbox)

There is a link at the bottom of that window to "Start a new conversation" In other words a PM

Easy but not that intuitive !!!

Hi Steve
Thanks for the reply

Is that different to what appears in the 'new profile posts' section as it looks like some members may think their 'conversations' are private but don't appear to be so.

Cheers Spike

Yes, it is the equivalent of the PMs and when you are in that conversation you can see how many people you decided to include in that conversation.

I spotted the profile posts and they do look like people think they are private (phone numbers being posted for example)

So I steer clear of the profile posts, I think this might be the same function that was on the old software, you could post something on a members profile for everyone to see.

Also as Muska pointed out yesterday you can also "PM" by just clicking on the avatar of the recipient. - Andy

Yes, much quicker but only if you happen to be looking at a message from that person. Which I suppose you would be most likely to be, but the other way can be used wherever you are on the forum.

So both are useful in their own way, clicking on the avatar is the easiest though, most of the time.

I am surprised nobody had suggested changing the text of Inbox to Mail or Messages. - Andy
