Project Pine Green 1.6

Yes and about 25kg heavier as a result.

The jump from 75bhp to 135bhp should make up for that though 😊

Great news Steve,

Really looking to see this one progress to MOT and put to good use.

Kind regards,

Tom

Spent a couple of hours out there today and got the car finished off. Just a gear selector reset needed now I think.

I think the bigger injectors are causing issues with starting as it seems to be getting flooded. @celsisone is sorting me out with a solution for me to be able to run a AUB ecu which should sort the fuelling out.

Had to use an unconventional method for bleeding the clutch after the normal methods didn’t work. My mate blew the fluid out while I closed the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder 😂

So apart from a hole in the exhaust that needs welding up I’ve now got a working 2000 model 1.6 A2.

The clocks and key will be with you next week . Will run better with the AUB ECU.

The injectors are bigger and the TB is twice the size .
That’s what I was thinking. It was starting on the button in the garage but I think now that I’ve driven it briefly the AUA ecu is struggling with the increased demands.

But hey it’s running and in one piece 😊👍

Your replacement clocks are being collected tomorrow from me and a should be with you Tuesday

Where’s the exhaust hole Steve?

The downpipe is a polo GTI 4 branch one that doesn’t have a pre-cat for the lambda to attach to. Brett has welded a captive nut type arrangement on the downpipe to attach the lambda.

I then had to join this downpipe onto the factory exhaust. It’s current blowing on that sleeve past the flexi. It’s not a big issue, I’ll get the car down to my friends garage and he’ll weld it up properly.

With thanks to @celsisone I’m now running the car on the matching clocks and key to the AUB ecu and it’s running like a peach.

I don’t think my wife and kids quite understood why I was dancing around the living room but I’m over the moon.

Just the emissions at MOT to battle with now 😂

Awesome news Steve,

I can just imagine how happy you would have been after getting the engine running just right. Sweet work. I’m sure the emissions will be a walk in the park after all the time and effort already spent on this project, which of course has been a complete success.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom, yes I’m over the moon.

Next up sorting out the bodywork. I’ve got to change both rear doors, passenger door, both rear arches, the tailgate, front bumper and bonnet. Essentially only the rear bumper and front wings will be staying on.

Going to keep this car clean. Will just be lowered to a sensible level on some coilovers and a nice set of BBS 17’s fitted.

I'm at a bit of a crossroads now with this project and i've got 3 possible ways I could go with how it's going to look. I'd appreciate members opinion and may even listen to the good advice :)

Option 1 - keep the car at factory ride height and fit a set of refurbed 17 inch sport spec alloys, retain the cream leather interior.

Option 2 - convert the car into another Dune, with new shocks and springs on an increased ride height, gunmetal grey arches and lower plastics, the peperpots currently fitted with some 20mm spacers, retain the cream leather interior, imitation skid plates front and rear and some roof bars mounted front to back.

Option 3 - paint the lower black plastics gloss black, lower the car on coilovers with a set of 17 inch BBS alloys with gold centres and polished outer lip. Interior change to black sports seats (cloth) and all interior changed to black.

I'm swaying more towards option 1 and 3, which are at opposite ends of the scale.

Or any other suggestions welcome.
