Retrofit DIS

I've often wondered if it is possible to retrofit DIS. It's all well and good calculating your mpg manually but some real time figures will be useful.
We also have a Polo 1.4 tdi which I enjoy driving but I do get bored staring at the empty panel.
What's really involved in retrofitting DIS?

So what is actually required?

A new DIS / clock unit. I am presuming that for a 42l TDI one would need a unit that corresponded with that tank.

Any new wiring / connectors?

That ebay item no. you posted doesnt appear to be for the stalk. I emailed the guy and he says its connects to the washer level, temp sensor and links the radio / sat nav up. He didnt mention about the wiper stalk???

They don't say the year, but a google search suggests it is an early one (prior to the change in the fuel level sender, prior to early 2002).
 
I thought chrome dial surrounds came in after then, so would suggest a later one. Mine is 2003 and has chrome dial surrounds.

But according to ETKA the J model is a petrol, but you can clearly see it's a diesel with the low rev range.

On early cars there was an 'aluminium trim pack' option which included the dial surrounds, interior door pulls, glove box handle, handbrake knob etc. Most of this became standard spec on later cars

Just wondered if any member has personal experience of using a company that repairs DIS screens (lcd) ?
