Today I.....

Today…well last night…I had great pleasure in meeting one of the Jedi Masters of A2s in Tom (Timmus). What a lovely and knowledgeable chap. Tom gave me a master class in all things A2 as he installed bluetooth and phone connectivity in my TDI90 as well as remapping the engine. To say I am delighted would be an understatement.

I always class Tom as a “farmer”.

I.E. He is a man “outstanding in his field” :D

10 out of 10 for every job he has done for me. And he has done lots.

Sir Tom farmer??

:)

I still reckon he still doesn't know how to wash his A2 properly though.

Sorry I'm clutching at straws...I mean what doesn't he know about the A2?

I'm looking forward to seeing and trying my cruise! Had to leave the poor fellow a key and a jug of water as we were both out when he could come so the pleasure of meeting will have to be deferred until next time...

You will LOVE the CC, well at least my right foot does :) :)

....had a new exhaust (front end) fitted at Mr Exhaust in Ruislip. I've used them a couple of times before.
http://www.mrexhaust.co.uk/index.php?p=index
I have no connection to them, only as a happy customer
They are an independent exhaust specialist. The only do exhausts, no batteries or tyres, brakes etc.
They even offer a repair and replacement service for damaged flexible sections, which can be a money saver.
Unfortunately for me, my A2 had the wrong exhaust front section, the front silencer was an oval shape and protruded around 100mm lower than it should.
So, this little beauty was fitted for £230.98...

At least my car no longer sounds like a dumper truck.

That's a good price! I'm getting my flex part exchanged and plug a hole at the pins that holds the exhaust in place, for the exact amount here in Sweden. I'd rather buy what you're having for that kind of money.

By the way, was this a custom build or foes he stock these? New cat aswell?
It would be worth whatever the shipping cost almost

Completely new from the manifold flange to just before the back box including the cat.
They order them in from a specialist manufacturer who I believe are BM catalysts.
The price includes fitting and all clamps, gaskets and mounts.
They also cured the vibration I had at the rear of the car that I thought was one of the heat shields - it was, but it was being hit by the back box mounting which was being pulled out of position by the badly fitted front end which was replaced.

So yesterday attempted replacement of driver door microswitch. Today found out not all right.

Saying that it was bitterly cold here yesterday and I couldnt see (it was dark well before I finished) and I couldnt feel my hands anymore :(

Oh and I managed to punch the ground pulling those plastic retainers out via pliers that keep the rubbers on the door in place. The good thing about it being cold was that i didn't feel it...at least initially anyway :D

End result?; i've concluded that whenever I now fix something on the A2 I do seem to create a different issue.

Whilst the door buttons (fuel and alarm) wouldnt come on before thats fixed. Issue now is that I'm getting a "drivers door deadlock wont engage" issue + the interior handle doesnt spring back. I ended up not caring to check anything yesterday as i was so dam cold (did I mention it was cold?)

Thats on top of the flap motor that I changed the the car is complaining is faulty now even though it is working very well.

I wanted to have another look today at the door as I'd need to wait another week before I can again - nope had to go on a 3hour trip for a relative's birthday that i dont know...just home and now its dark and very cold :(

Right thats about it today :p

TODAY I..........

Removed my New varta battery again to recharge it due to it being flat !
Car not even turning over .....

It was reading 11.93v before i connected it to the charger this morning . I will leave it to trickle charge then reconnect , then try to find the parasitic drain problem ..........

Also removed the broken ashtray and fitted the replacement from "A2steve" .cheers mate !.

And while in Halfords came away with a pair of led sidelights ...... for when the battery drain issue has been traced....

Cheers Paul I think I may well do that very kind offer sir :)

Obviously I've done something stupid but when you're hands and brain are being slowly frozen that tends to happen :)

. . . .Have been looking into the possibility of making a steering control to CAN module, to control a future mod, which I suspect will merely be a pipe dream.

Following my own advice, I think it's going to be far more time consuming and costly than it'll ever be worth.

Painted the fuel flap release switch in black acrylic with a very fine brush and a magnify lens. Before and after:

STOP! It's cruel to enlarge the photos beyond actual size of the switch ;) but it's good enough for this switch as it's hidden in the door jab. I shall probably add a layer of "invisible" tape as I have on some of my other switches.

Tomorrow to fit it. I hope this is not in vain. Last time I went to refuel there was no switch! Fortunately the button, innards including the small spring, were on the carpet. So I'm hoping I can figure out what needs doing to stop the button popping out again.

I think they are about £18 new but I wanted to try this as I might now tackle 2 of my other switches that are worn - air recycle and scan - the latter will be a challenge.

You did a much better job of that than I did but same principle. It is a JOY the first time you turn on the lights on a dark car and the little pictures are there!

I use watchmakers eyeglasses, 2X, 5X and 10X. It may have been better to just "touch-up" the black areas, leaving the white symbol alone?

Had the drivers door check strap replaced (thanks to Depronman for the part), and had a slatted grille fitted (thanks to A2Steve for the part). Photos to follow after a few other bits are done.
Cheers
Steve
