Today I.....

More details please Rob. Is this your car?

Yes mine Steve. It was overdue a few bits & pieces of bodywork - bumper scuffs etc so I thought there would never be a better opportunity to ‘Storm’ her! After all, having a glass roof already, it was pretty much already half way there!

Cheers
Rob

Braved the weather and fitted the Winter Alloys (Thanks Richard) to Baby Boomer. I'm getting a dab hand at this, it only took an hour this time around and that was with two rims that needed a bit of gentle persuasion to come away...

Today I...

Got the ASR switch looking from this...

to this (thanks to Rich2508)...

Next up, the dashboard bar (also thanks to Rich2508). And boy did a lot needed to be taken out to get to those three bolts.

While I had the glove box taken out, looked into the mechanism for turning the glove box light off when closed...sure enough, broken...
IMG_20171202_130039.jpg

Went crazy with some 5-second UV plastic weld to attach the broken bit to where it's supposed to be. Only time will tell how much that fix will last. That's a rather poor design choice IMHO.

And, finally, just because everything else was out, decided to look into fixing the ashtray. No springiness and no light either...

Hmmmm...I wonder why.....:(

Washed the car, it was growing things...

Think I might need to get a pressure washed to get all the crud out of the gaps, hose and a sponge got a bit out but a good amount it was still a bit green in places. And definitely need to get a clay bar at some point to remove the black splats on the paint behind the wheels.

Crikey! That is interesting.

Be careful using a pressure washer. On red cars particularly, the lacquer does not seem to grip very well!

Today I did an oil change and also replaced the dog bone mount. Went for a Febi 31083 as the application list included several diesels so hoped the stiffness would be the correct spec. The old one visually looked ok with no splits but deflected very easily under finger pressure compared to the new one.

Any reason why you chose to replace?

Would be interested to know if you had any symptoms

Well there seemed to be a reasonable amount of 'shunt' from drive to over-run so at ~25quid seemed worth a punt to change it. The shunt has gone but first impression is that there is a bit more engine vibration reaching the cabin.

Took the car for an MOT & passed with flying colours
Next job is to get the timing belt/waterpump done
