Today I.....

Today my cupholders arrived from siroccorrado, thanks very much, and decided to try and remove the stereo to fit them.

Looking at the facia of my stereo I am fairly sure that someone has tried to remove it before and made a complete arse of it! Now I can only get the right hand side to release and the left hand side won't budge. I have a service arranged for Wednesday so I will ask and see if they have any better luck than me!

Think I may need to look at getting a replacement Concert I head unit or a Concert II and fitting the Can Bus adapter but they seem to be £80 by themselves.

Cheers,
Steven
is a very common fault when a monkey goes at it with the wrong removal keys
The latch mechanism will be bent out of shape, I'm affraid once it is like this then brute force is the only think that you can do, you should be able to straighten the latch once it is out, damage the radio fascia rather than the dash itself, but it should come out without nay damage to either

Cheers,

To add to Paul's post. I would open ashtray, remove cubby followed by climate and then you should be able to get some fingers on the rear of head unit to give it some encouragement to release. Long way round I know but I see no alternative.

Great thanks for the advice.....I will give this a go and see if I can get the stereo out.

seconded, some force from the back is very helpful

I had my new (to me) alloys fitted and rear windows tinted, fronts will be done on Friday as he ran out of the tint I wanted ? centre caps for alloys on order.

Looks really cool as is. Dark windows on silver looks great .
Also just to make you aware that there is a legal limit regarding tinting front windows. If you exceed it the police can issue a fine + your insurance will be null and void.
My local tinting shop will not under any cicumstances tint front windows.
A local boy racer was involved in a RTA , the police did him for dangerous driving , tinted windows infringement and the insurance refused to pay up .

Yes I am aware of the legality of tinting the front windows beyond the limit. I use a national company and they have explained the options. I will not have them done anywhere near as dark as the rears.

Nice!

How dark have you gone/ can you go for the windows?

70% is the same as factory tint, I have used 35% on several projects and not had any issues. The rears are full privacy glass.

Cool it looks great and thought it might look nice to make mine nice and dark. The spoiler you’ve got on yours. Is it standard. Looks bigger or is that just because is painted???

What about painting from the beltline upwards in black to spice the silver up a bit. Would blend the wheels quite nicely then.
I have been thinking about painting the A pillar over to the C pillar in black, along with the door mirrors. I have a good local guy who is reasonable for paint work. I don't think it would cost much. I see quite a few A1's with the "top" in black, quite like it.

No it's a standard TDI spoiler, not painted, but I am hoping that we will be getting the the Votex copies through one of the club members, long process though.

....today I... did send a long letter to the new "Minister of Justice" that we got today... he is younger, more dynamic, like to act and is hopefully more fair than most of the once we have tried before him...

The short version of the long letter will be something like this:

Dear Minister of Justice,
Since I have been voting to your best for the last 8 years I was hoping to get a small favour in return.... I have an Audi A2 that I care a lot for and this car have a sofa backseat with seatbelts for 3 people and there are some of these cars registered in Norway for 5 people already so could you please allow mine to be a 5 seater too, please.

Best regards dieselfan

Got the car serviced and checked over by SVS in Dundee. Overall the car was in good shape and had no faults on the diagnostic scan other than the brake light switch that I knew about. Advisories were to replace the alternator belt, O/S/F drop link worn (he said it didn't look that old but there was play in it already), N/S/F wheel bearing is noisy.

Other than that just need to replace the fuel, air and pollen filters. Now to get buying the required parts and to rope my brother-in-law in :D

Cheers,
Steven

Got tyres fitted to the new alloys for JRV, dropped them off at WOM, and collected the TT rims... JRV is looking sexier than ever, despite lack of drivers' door :)
