Today I.....

Finally got around to installing a Bose retrofit to my A2. Very happy with the results and a BIG thanks to tom for adding his technical knowledge. All in probably took me about 20hrs worth of work. That was mainly taken up of stripping system from donor car carefully, utilising most of the original wiring loom. Just got to put the standard system back into my donor now.

Received the slatted grille from @Snydersmuncher93 which I immediately fitted after work. It was very simple in the end but it caused me a bit of head scratching. However. Glad to have done it.

Good work Steve. What do you think of the BOSE?

Hi Steve.
Getting used to it at mo. Mainly listening to music on usb via my dension unit. Clarity is very good, but doesn't seem to be very bassy. Will try a cd tomorrow see how it performs.

Today I got new brakes......and summertires are to be put on in a couple of weeks but first, the A2 are going for another mountainride where its still a lot of snow.

It's not a DEEP bass system by any stretch of the imagination, so if Heavy D and Da Boyz is your bag you'll probably be disappointed, BUT have a listen to a good copy of Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loc and that will restore any lost faith :)

Hmm that takes me back. Great song

Today I was working from home.. weather nice so cut the grass.. Noticed VEM looking very distinguished on the drive with the flowering cherry in full bloom in the background, so took a photo.. Nothing mechanical, no tinkering with VEM and no cleaning.. just a photo.. :)

Received the side vents today that I bought off @Snydersmuncher93 in perfect condition. Had a look at the passenger side one in the car and had a real piece of luck when it simply came out just pulling with my fingers! Two metal clips still attached, both on the other side from the one still attached to the replacement. Removed these and Superglued them on to the replacement, slotted it in, job done that side!

Then having nearly pulled the worn fasica right off the worn headlight knob without it even budging, I went and read up on how to actually get the headlight switch out, so simple! Unfortunately with it out there's not really any access to the lower clips of the driver's side vent that I was hoping for. I think that one will end up getting its missing slider via a vane transplant. But I put the replacement headlight switch in while I was there.

Just had fitted 2 x Toyo PROXES T1-R 18550R16 81V at Trowbridge Tyres aka Challenger Tyres and Exhaust. These are the make of tyre I've had for the last 5 years or so. Whilst local they were the cheapest in the area at £64.44 each fitted and balanced. This was cheaper that the £96 I paid back in 2012. No doubt helped by the falling Japanese Yen and the improving GB £.

As per recent posts I put them on the rear. They didn't charge to swap the existing rears to the front. One of the existing fronts badly worn due to poor tracking (now fixed). No doubt all those zillions of pot holes in Wiltshire.

Always feel nervous when the A2 is out of sight and being jacked up. I did warn them to take care with the car being aluminium and plastic. A look underneath at the plastic sills and they look OK. I wish now I had asked them where they were going to lift the car. Lifting under the front arms can be risky given the rust.

Receipt was marked Make/Model: A1!

Vane transplant now complete and new slider present on the driver's side vent. The bottom half of the old slider was stuck between the horizontal and vertical vanes, so I took some more horizontal ones out to get the access to remove it. One of these left a lug in the connector strip which I had to remove, but at least I had plenty of replacement vanes available.

... Actually did some mechanical work on various cars...

  • Fitted new wiper mechanism to JRV (new style)
  • Swapped battery in JRV with another car to clean up the boot - my word, that's a faff on an early car
  • Replaced the headlight bulbs on Baby Boomer
  • Swapped to black mirror caps on JRV
  • Help @timmus with removal of Bose
Muchos thanks to Marcus and Rob (WOM Automotive) for technical assistance and use of facilities in my quest.
