Today I.....

... Actually did some mechanical work on various cars...

  • Fitted new wiper mechanism to JRV (new style)
  • Swapped battery in JRV with another car to clean up the boot - my word, that's a faff on an early car
  • Replaced the headlight bulbs on Baby Boomer
  • Swapped to black mirror caps on JRV
  • Help @timmus with removal of Bose
Muchos thanks to Marcus and Rob (WOM Automotive) for technical assistance and use of facilities in my quest.

I suppose that explains the bad weather ???

Fitted driverside headlamp ...... smoked side repeaters .......New Pressed Number Plates......... finished off with Autoglym Rapid Detailer........

just changed my fuel filter and its warm and sunny in St Annes, watching F1 free practice 3 then going to change the door cards for the nice soul black ones I bought from Boxy

^^^^ The passenger mirror's clean already, right? ;)

Today I filled up for the first time since I got the car (with a ¾ full tank) and went to Leicestershire to collect the spacesaver spare I purchased from @sciroccorrado. Back to Bicester to see my son, stopping off at Halfords for some injector cleaner, then back home. 'Orrid weather the whole way but Doodlebug didn't miss a beat in 180 miles, seems smoother with the injector cleaner in too. I really am enjoying driving this.

Decided the time is right to sell our other car :(.
Don't worry guys it's not an a2. It's a vw tiguan tdi r line

Today I well yesterday really, I travelled to Lancaster to have cruise control fitted by Tom (timmus).
There is not much I can say the hasn't been said before about this man. Except it is all true and he truly is a legend in his own time. Excellent work and a fabulous warm welcome by him and his family. Well worth the 500 mile round trip. Oh and the cruise control is great upgrade. It has just made a great car even better.

Many many thanks Tom.

Today we gave the storm and yvonne's white sport a damn good clean in preparation for next weeks stanford hall show. Its so good to get them nice and clean as i will admit they looked very neglected and dirty.

Having fitted 2 new Toyo Proxes on the rear axel on Friday (see earlier post) I drove to Havant yesterday (200 mile round trip). Hit the first corner at speed going over Salisbury Plain and felt the car twitched uncomfortably/worryingly. Took it easy for the rest of the journey. Picked up 3 passengers. Now my A2 does have a firm ride since its suspension overhaul but is usually better with a load. Not yesterday, it was embarrassingly hard over the rotten roads we have.

So before returning I checked the pressures. Rears were 37 and not 29. Shocking. Ride home was much better. Car purred along and I did the 100 miles in 100 minutes. I shall be calling the garage on Monday....

Moral: check air pressures after having new tyres fitted. I was planning to do that when I filled with fuel on Friday but when the air machine wanted £1 I thought I'm not paying that but ended up paying a £1 anyway in Havant.

And the moral of the story a single £1.. nearly cost you your car ?..

... spent the day cleaning and preparing the wife's 'new' TDI (middle one), moved her leather from the FSI. More to be done before I take her Focus away, for some reason her TDI has an old style wiper arm(which is well past its best). Getting busy in the drive, time to sell some vehicles (no, not Audis).

Don’t hang about too long before losing the Focus. Just got rid of mine in time before the rust dissolved it completely.

Only had to paint the sills and arches twice in my ownership not bad for a 6 year old car.

Tony.

Sills are prone to rust though never had arch issues(owned 5 over the last 12ish years) they've all been very reliable.

True. A potential case of "spoil the ship for a halfpenny worth of tar". Not that I'm stingy , I'm spending £1,000 on the car this month (new front arms, new cambelt etc, MOT, tyres). I hope it's not a case of "bottomless pit" to throw another expression into the post ;)

I often refer to myself as stingy, I was recently reminded that the air machine in Morrisons takes 20 pence as I asked for a token. I'm well aware it takes 20 pence though the token costs nothing more than a disapproving comment. :)
Conversely, I paid for water to top up my washers recently as I had no sensible alternative, I like to see where I'm going.
