Today I.....

Today I fitted a centre handbrake tray. The standard ones are no longer available but the tray that is used on A2s with the satnav buttons cutout are still available new from Audi (around £40) and I think that the separate compartments are useful. There is an opening for the switches but that is easily sorted by a suitable piece of plastic and the (supplied black felt)

My car was a double din and so had the tray already (in grey) but I swapped it for a soul black interior and so I needed a black one. And this style suited me. The tunnel trim did not have the cutout slots for the mounting legs but I just used some gorilla tape and pushed down on the tray and that left indentations so I knew where to cut the slots.
The tape showing (just about) the indentations and the tray fitted.

Sorry I don't, but just message Tom from CreweAudi, he supplied it and he is a really helpful guy.

I will see if I can find the number.

Took the A2 for it's MOT..........first time under the new rules. I always check the basics but forgot about the front fogs and reversing lights. Thankfully all were OK.
In the general chat, was surprised to hear that missing or loose underbody heatshields could be a failure and the rules on HID headlamps were a bit more lax than the press has indicated. No doubt every tester will have different views but if the light had a good beam pattern and were not blue, he would pass them

Cheers Spike

I would like to hope for consistence between MoT testers, but I fear the word 'Hope' may be a stretch too far

Today Marjory the minger.. after 5 years of being off the road PASSED the MOT test 1st time, my brother picked this up at auction after being sat for at least 4 years it’s safe to say she was in a very poor state on inspection there was lots of oily bits to do so after a brake, suspension and full service overhaul a new TRE, couple of lower arm, new hubs, new sensors.. a fluid refresh and a well needed VALET.. plus a go at the broken sky turning into a smashed sky we’re MOTd and today my brother will be taking her home.. very pleased to have saved this little car..

That’s some testament to my spanner skills and a very well made little car.

How easy is it to remove the handbrake covers to fit this? Does it just clip in or are there any mounting screws?

Nice day and had some time to kill so i thought i would look at my project.
Stripped off the inlet manifold and opened up a can of worms in the process. Looks like someone has had a go before me and used gasket sealer instead of buying new gaskets for the inlet manifold. They used Too much sealer and it had jammed the flaps, snapping the actuator! And damaged some electrical plugs to boot! And then found two snapped bolts in the engine mounting bracket.

Replaced the osr spring, and in the process sheared my 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor trying to undo the wheel nuts whilst almost lifting the rear of the car (couldn't find my 1/2 inch 17mm).

next job is nsf spring then replacing the o/s door strap and door open switch.

Easy. No tools needed. Just pull the handle off and then manipulate the cover off.

The tray presses into the holes in the tunnel trim if you have / or have had a tray before. If not then just a few slots need to be drilled l. Some people brakecut the legs off the tray instead.

I can sort you out with a refurbished check strap, better than the Saudi originals as use stainless steel bolts and nylon nuts and two brass rolllers instead of the plastic rollers
They are £25 ea but I need your old one back
Pm me if interested

Today I cleared over 500 miles to a tank of fuel in my TDi (34l tank) :) I wouldn't dare go much further!!

27718119937_d03ddbd9b9_c.jpg
Please advis how many litres you got in the tank from here
I did a similar thing a few months ago as I wanted to run some diesel purge through the entire fuel system
I was 80 miles after the warning came on the dash for low fuel. Needle was on wrong side of empty line
Still only got 29.3 litres in the it
Conclusion. Fuel gauge is a guide only
Cheers

From the fuel light coming on it was about 45 miles to that point and when filling up I got just under 33l back in (using the purge valve on the side of the filler neck) If I don't activate the valve I get about 3-4l less I think.

I wouldn't be brave enough to try and get 80m fron the fuel warning coming on!

So your gauge is ike mine needle on or just under the empty mark and there is still 5 litres in the tank
All it means is that when the light comes on I’m not immediately looking for a shell station as I now know there is at least 100 miles in the tank

I need to look at my economy. I get 55 to a gallon - mostly motorway. What kind of things could be wrong to cause that?!? Remap will hopefully improve it but still!

The remap helped me a bit but making sure my thermostat was working correctly has made the biggest difference. Correct tyre pressures etc. I've been using diesel injector cleaner regularly now also, unsure if it helps though. Only travelling at 50/60mph, and no Aircon was required to get that many miles from a tank for me. My commute is usually quite a steady run which helps too. :)
