Today I.....

So today managed to put the car on axle stands at the front without issue (fell off last time). Doing some rust proofing & treatment. Removed undertray to allow access and took opportunity to replace the water pump for the washers. Got soaked obviously but now working much better...

Also took opportunity to clean the k&n panel air filter with the undertray off...or so I thought. Garage that charged me for install of filter I provided obviously didn't fancy taking the undertray off the car... and the filter itself as all I found was a skanky old 60k plus filter. Fraud and theft.... I'm still boiling mad

Curious, What rust proofing needs to be done?
Just seen an mot advisory for the same on an A2 for sale.

I’m with you buddy. My fuel filter has dinosaur finger prints from the last mechanic that touched it. Pretty sure cabin and oil are going to be the same. If I hadn’t already blown up at the garage owners I’d be tempted to go back and have another go!

Was doing work on the wishbone arms, front hubs and subframe. Was purely precautionery but given the reporting of failures I've noted here that was my main goal. I've bought bilt hamber kit which should allow me to apply a number of times if needs be in the future.

CAn you tell me what you had to hack apart and do you have a photo of the finished product! I have the auto light installed and bought a silver bezel but have no idea how to go about fitting it!
Thanks

I spent several hours yesterday relining the doorcards in a white vinyl (leather look) and brushed aluminium wrap.....

Today I woke up to this .....

Too many glaring imperfections so ripping it off and starting again ?

I’m told the way to work with one way stretch on any uneven or rounded/mounded surface is to do it in concentric circles. Draw lines a couple of inches apart on the panel moving away from the start point and apply the glue to each lined in zone and stretch the fabric into that zone only then work it smooth and taut. Then... wait until the glue has gone off and do up to the next concentric line... slow but keeps everything nice and tight apparently.

There’s a great set of videos on YouTube by a guy called Cechaflo where he wraps dashboards and roof linings in leather and suede and everything. Uses a brush on adhesive and keeps working it out with his fingers to stretch each little section at a time.

Good luck. I keep meaning to give it a try myself but too cowardly.

Oooh great tip Alex! Thanks!! :D
I’ll have a look for that YouTube channel ;)

Nice one ?

Well it's certainly my 1st choice! It's PERFECT! What surprises me is that the leather seems to be full thickness? All the leather work on my door-cards had the leather thinned … (I think that it's called "scrimming" the leather?) That makes it much more pliable and moldable.

I’m not saying is not a nice colour - a very pretty blue - but if you see the car at the end it’s yellow and blue.

It does look very thick - scraped leather certainly is going to stretch better but maybe he was trying to avoid distortion of the grain. I notice he scrapes the plastic to allow the extra thickness at the edges so he does allow for the thickness

I’ve watched a few of his videos. Mesmerising!

Here’s one

Not my 1st choice colour but a masterpiece.

I watched this one too! Awesome! He makes it look so easy; very talented man.
Thanks for finding it, his channel is great.
I find it comical that some of them were called “basics” and then he creates a masterpiece. Serious skills :)

Oh of course, yes ... not been an issue so much for my A2. But my Volvo C70 has enormous doors - literally they're about 6 feet long - and it's still worth some reasonable money. No such thing as an empty car park round my way so I try to get on the end of a row and in the far side of the space, or next to a disabled space with room at the side. Then some plonker will still come and throw a giant 4x4 right on the line in the next space so I still can't open my door properly
Same problem for me. My 5GT is actually based on a 7 series chassis and it’s massive, far too big for any normal parking spaces. The only good thing is the doors have frameless windows, so if someone parks too close I can at least lower the windows for easier access!
I must trade it in for a golf R......!

Today I tried to change a cv boot. All going well till I noticed someone previously has welded up the middle of the hub but. Fantastic. A bigger job for another day I think now.

May try and track down the mechanic and weld up his workshop doors. See how he likes it.

...Well, yesterday but...
Managed to make my first 500 mile plus round trip in a day since having the lurgi.
Very important mission - collect 12 cases of beer from the Purple Moose brewery in Porthmadog (No, they're not all for me - just 2 of them), had a ride on the Talyllyn railway and visited a couple of friends, then dinner with my kids.
Got home at 23:00 not feeling at all tired.
The A2 transporter is back in business!

Today I fitted a centre handbrake tray. The standard ones are no longer available but the tray that is used on A2s with the satnav buttons cutout are still available new from Audi (around £40) and I think that the separate compartments are useful. There is an opening for the switches but that is easily sorted by a suitable piece of plastic and the (supplied black felt)

My car was a double din and so had the tray already (in grey) but I swapped it for a soul black interior and so I needed a black one. And this style suited me. The tunnel trim did not have the cutout slots for the mounting legs but I just used some gorilla tape and pushed down on the tray and that left indentations so I knew where to cut the slots.
The tape showing (just about) the indentations and the tray fitted.

Hi Steve, I just bought today myself the centre tray, but struggling to find on the forum some tips/ instructions on how to remove the curved handbrake panel and fit the new tray. Any help would be much appreciated!
