Today I.....

You painted them yourself Pinky ?

Indeed! Second time’s the charm I hope ??

I filled, rebuilt and painted the exteriors last summer after getting them for a great price with tyres on... but... they wouldn’t hold air and when I got them stripped the inside of the rim was a complete STATE! The fella in the tyre place tried to be helpful and took a wire brush to the edge - unfortunately chipping away a lot of the newly built up and painted rim.

So I have now sanded and etched the internal faces, rebuilt the rim again and painted and lacquered the rim edges and face. They are going to look SO GOOD!

I’m trying to convince myself to be brave and just get the 205/55s and make it work if they rub. It’s a lot of money for four tyres if it’s a washout though...

… decided that the carpy Sony head unit in JRV HAD to go, especially as it has taken to skipping about like nobody's business. I had a dig about upstairs and found a box containing 2x Sony XPLOD MPX-70s from back in the early 00s when I used to do a bit of car sound-off stuff, so I thought I would give it a try...

WOW - What a difference. Really glad that I re-found this stereo. Although it lacks Bluetooth capability, the sound from this thing is amazing, especially given that I am using BOSE speakers. It has a superb transport mechanism and will play MP3 files from CD.

The only negative at the moment is the lack of constant live feed to keep the memory alive, which means that listening to long audio books takes about 5 minutes of "fast forward" whenever I come to start the car up again. I really need to add that.

However, for a 5-minute job it's one of the best I've done.View attachment 41477

Update, swapped a couple of wires in the back, and it's now retaining the memory, so I can set the time and the colours etc.

There's a couple light scratches on the rear arch and a bit on the rear bumper that's annoying me so I'll probably do it all at the same time. I got my A2OC stickers on tonight so I better get it looking decent. :p

I think it is well worth doing, it almost looks like it has a votex kit on and to me it really suits the A2.

This was my wife's car.

Colour coded bottom all the way. The votex kit can look a little bulky if the right wherls aren't fitted.
We aimed for the best of both worlds with Sam's by extending the arches and blending in the votex.

Ooh! Did you have the Votex sanded down to match the arch or the arch built up to meet the Votex lip? Any pics of the pre-paint (if you don’t mind showing her undressed of course...)

The arches were built up to match the kit. Was a lot of work for him. I've WhatsApp'd you mate

I did indeed spray all the lower black silver to match the rest of the car, in my opinion it takes years off the A2 and is a look that I much prefer, even over a vortex body kit (though I really do like that Steve/Sam have had done, as it looks far less like a bolted on body kit)
For anyone thinking of doing the same, it is a LOT OF WORK, the bumpers need to come off, as do the sill covers, then there is a lot of flatting to remove all of the scuffs that the lower black area will have acquired over the years. You MUST then use plastic bumper primer before numerous coats of high build primer, then more flatting and body stopper, more flatting and more primer. Finally you get to the body colour (silver in my case) then 2k lacquer
It took me around 6 full days to complete the lower body colour coding, granted in that I also repainted the rear wheel arches and the front wheel arches (masked into the wing body line) and the bumpers
I also removed and painted the lower door rubbing strips, same treatment as the black plastics.
This was all some 11 months ago and the paint as stood up very well, the only issues as been the softer 'rubber' section of the rear plastic sill covers, these tend to catch stones. If I was doing this again I would look to fit stone protection film to this area to help protect the paint from stone chips

Cheers,
Paul

Bought some Meguiars Ultimate Compound from halfords at a very reasonable price today. :)
Normally use Zymol but has gone very expensive.
