Today I.....

Hi Nat,
The gears take a couple of days to arrive once ordered as does the gearbox oil
I need your car for around 3 hours to do the job

The end result is you do need to hold 4th gear for a little longer, at least 40mph, a little more if you are in a hurry
Motorway driving is a real pleasure 70mph (75 on speedo) is just a tad over 2200RPM and its sooooo quiet
Economy as increased on motorway runs by +4mpg on my run to Silverstone, maybe a little more as car was loaded up with camping gear and 2 adults plus I wasn't hanging around either, tank was silverstone return trip, a little running around there then my weeks commute to work, so 400 miles motorway and another 80 at town stop start driving, MPG was 71mpg brimmed to brimmed

Let me know if you want it done and I'll get a set of gears ordered and the oil for the box, there are different ratios available, but the 0.66 seems to be the best compromise, lower ratio and the gap from 4th to 5th will take a lot of managing, plus 70MPH would be less than 2200rpm and so starting to drop out of the power band, you could go slightly higher but you start to loose the benefit
Cheers,
Paul

Cheers Paul I’ll be in touch mate

Today I learned that changing a front wing is a complete PITA. Bumper cover comes off ok, and getting most of the wing off isn't easy but it's doable. It all goes wrong when trying to release the lower rear bit of the wing from the two studs. The wing and the front section of the sill cover are intertwined and the two studs go through both. This means you have to release the sill cover from the car, and to do that, you have to break off the top bit of the cover, because there's no other way. I wish I'd done my homework first. The car's now in bits until I can get the new parts from Audi. *sigh*. PS, I managed to break the main sill cover in the process through my own heavy-handedness but that was entirely my fault.

Today I failed to get the sump plug undone from the £225 Tdi- I’m going to suck it out instead, yes I know it doesn’t get it all out but better than leaving, will do it next time once I’ve more time!
Plus point I swapped the seats for my soul black ones and they look very nice. Pain in the rear getting the back seats out as one had stuck with the release mechanism broken, big screwdriver and bigger hammer sorted it after 30m or so!

Following a very near miss.
I brought this a2 75 tdi last year for my son in laws 1st car following him passing his test , and it has served him well ..

Key pints are, it was clean , tidy and had over 6k worth of service works and repairs well documenting its 13 year life, Mainly Audi dealers , owned by a Docter etc ...

As is the way of the world, experience is gained following the passage of time and gathered information

So when the call comes in , errr I have a bump and the other cars a Volvo v60 I feared the worst.

However , removing the worst of the damaged parts , and trail fitting a good bonnet , has shown the car to be slighty worst for wear , but repairable using only bolt on parts

So detailed checks have shown the front wings have moved back about 6mm , towards the leading edge of the front doors , how do your adjust this gap , or have if missed a key item which may be bent

On the plus side , 2nd hand parts , managed to get a full front end of a black car ,including headlamps, fixing crash beams , and other bits , so we crack on with some of the repairs tomorrow

Any advice and pointers on the front wings !!!

Thanks Mark

Hello. I needed to replace this much and the front structure that holds the radiator on my car after clouding a deer, there was an amount of play to some of the fittings that hold it all together. You probably could find enough in some to move the wings forward a bit. But not 6 mm. Was the front black structure as shown in this all still where it should be though? Tony.

Called at a mates tonight... sad to see that some people don’t cherish the A2 like we all do.... 10k miles and not had one wash if it wasn’t so far gone I’d be tempted to take it off him

Chalk and cheese looking at your prized car against the other one mate. A real shame to see any car not loved, especially so an A2. That said, I'm sure mine looked something like that after trekking around Wales this weekend... ;)

Today I ... completed a bit of an interior refresh. I do appreciate the leather seats I'd upgraded to, but they do make it rather dark in there. So I've gone from this ...

... to this. So much lighter inside now!

I bought these seats cheaply off eBay, collected them en route to the recent Welsh driving day and lugged them around the entire route and back home. The doorcards came from @Sarge's Crystal Blue breaker just before it went to the great meet-up in the sky.

The seats are supposed to be a temporary measure, the plan was for them to provide the lumbar mechanisms and the switch-trims, to be retrofitted to a set of blue Satellite SE seats. Those also came from @Sarge's car and have come up very nicely with Autoglym foam and a steam cleaner.

But actually these Sports seats aren't bad at all, with just a slight fraying and sagging on the driver's bolster. Seeing how good a match they are for Crystal Blue, I'm now in two minds. @rosscanning, you may have written the book on trying all the different seats but I share your pain :D Whichever two sets I don't end up keeping will eventually be appearing in the Market.

Although you've gone the opposite direction to other members, I can see your logic. Dark leather can sometimes make the interior look a bit dull.

Perhaps blue leather seats could be the ultimate option for you. Did you see DJ 190's blue interior on the social?

these would look good on my sons Azur blue A2, but I do prefer the black leather.

I had lunch on the same table with him but missed looking at his car ... I'd love to have seen what that interior looked like. Perhaps a set will turn up one day ...
