Today I.....

You shouldnt get any blue tint on bulbs until over 6k...6k is usually the tipping point between mighty white and bluey white :)

Misrepresentation of kelvin on bulbs can lead to mucho confusion but its normal practice

Washed and clay bar'd my 'new' silver A2.

Couldn't believe how grubby the clay got doing the roof, I doubt it had ever been done.

Not an incredibly clear photo, but left has been clayed and right hasn't.

Polish and wax next and it'll be good for winter ?

You can really see the contaminants that have been lifted by the clay from left to right. I used to love running a microfiber cloth over the panel after claying, smooth with no resistance :)

Today I booked in for Saturday morning for some winter tyres to be fitted to my pepperpots, 185/65/15 Michelin Cross Climate+

I also have a new thermostat to fit, not sure if I tackle that today or not!

I fitted these summer tyres (yes they are :) ) to my pepper pots a couple of months back... quite impressed and they also do a sterling job in winter I'm told . I got 195 55 r15s and have already lost one to a puncture :(

Yes, that's correct, they're actually an 'all season' tyre, I've read/watched a few tests and they seem to perform really well against dedicated winters/summers :)

Today (or more strictly last night) I learned how important it is to release the spring compressors evenly when assembling a front strut, especially if you've slackened the top nut to reduce the compression to re-seat a slightly errant spring. If you don't, you can damage the top thread and then the world collapses around your ears. A lot of sawing off of the nut, followed by a careful bit of thread chasing and restoration of the hex socket in the rod has rectified the situation. Luckily, the damaged threads were all north of where the nut finishes up, so the effectiveness of the fixing should be unaffected.

Well following Muska's recommendation I ordered the Night Breaker Lasers however only the H7s arrived, may be Amazon knows where the H3s are.
Anyhow as the whole process was prompted by a blown dipped bulb, I installed the H7s. What a transformation! I don't know if the previous bulbs were boggos but the improvement is not subtle!

I'm going to take mine for a drive to the pub tonight to try them out in the dark :)

Dumped a bottle of this in my fuel tank:

I'm not a lover of additives but I've had a problem with my Mrs's Merc. It needed a new (reconditioned) turbo actuator to solve a misfire on kick down. The problem was solved for several months but came back recently despite the actuator appearing to work correctly. The supplier suggested the variable turbo may be a bit sticky at the extremities of movement and suggested two bottles of Forte Turbo Cleaner. I was a bit concerned a load of crap would be dumped in the Cat but the car is smoother, more economical, much much more responsive and fixed.

OK my A2 does not have a variable turbo but the treatment claims to be good for cleaning the AGR valve and I suppose therefore also the manifold downstream of the AGR and the tops of inlet valves too. No harm in cleaning the turbo vanes either.

Will report later.

So got my car back last night and the oil chain has been replaced and i just got the timing belt done again although it was only in there just over a year and 20k miles. Murray who carried out the work took a few pics so will add to the oil chain thread in due course.

Also just added my first dash of 2t scoot oil into the tank so we'll see how that goes :)

It's been a good week for my A2. MOT passed on Thursday with advisories only, for the ball joint dust covers and an indicator bulb going white.

Then today I made hopefully the final change to its seats ...

These are the seats I bought on impulse from @Sarge along with the doorcards, but do you notice something a little unusual? The lumbar mechanisms come courtesy of my breaker. Since it had SE seats I simply unbolted and swapped the seat back frames, routed the wiring back into the new base and put the covers back on - no need to drill out any rivets. The switch base trims come from my previous blue Sports seats.

That left time to fit this bad boy ...

... which as you can see even in that low light, shows up how bad the rest of my interior trim is - look at the rear of the console!

Just time and light enough after that to fit a @depronman checkstrap to the drivers door, another bonus from my breaker. What a different sound it makes and different feeling it gives through the armrest as you open and shut the door! I shall need another one for the front passenger side - watch your inbox Paul :)

Well done Proghound! How on earth did you manage to separate the two seat halves? I tried today with a breaker bar and a mallet and couldn’t get any of the bolts to budge an inch!

They are the same seats I have in my dark Blue A2, I like them but the wife hates them
