Today I.....

Well done Proghound! How on earth did you manage to separate the two seat halves? I tried today with a breaker bar and a mallet and couldn’t get any of the bolts to budge an inch!

Alex, just in case you're trying them, the nuts you see on the outside of the frame are welded on, captive. You want a Torx-50 bit on the corresponding bolts on the inside, a normal 3/8ths-drive ratchet worked fine for me.

They are the same seats I have in my dark Blue A2, I like them but the wife hates them

One of the reasons they're in mine is that management doesn't like the Sports bolsters - I'd rather not have complaints on the Scotland trip next year :D I just think they're really pretty, you can see the pattern so well with blue. Now I've got the lumbar support in there, I'm happy. Not driven on them yet but they feel a bit softer on my bony backside than the Sports bases too.

Sorry to be a bit thick here but are they a standard i.e. non-sports base with a sports back and added lumbar support?

No, these are non-Sport base and non-Sport back. My breaker happened to have non-Sport seats with lumbar (a rare combination) so I just had to swap the backs of the frames over on to the seats I wanted the lumbar on. The only bits that came from my previous Sport seats were the blue trims with the lumbar switches in which go on the bases ... so not quite as ingenious as @A2Steve is giving me credit for I'm afraid

Thank you for the explanation.
It is also encouraging to see that I am not the only one with a wife who knows what she wants...
Taking the dremel to the Jack Russel's claws this evening may in fact be easier!

Hmmm! Well I’m glad it isn’t just that I’m weak and they beat me! I got my own back by cutting the offending chair into halves with an angle grinder.
It did feel very wrong but they were heading to the dump, I needed to split it to be able to fit my daughter in the car with 2 fronts and 4 rear seats (Well 4 and 6 really) and my knuckles wanted vengeance!

Picked up car from garage. All serviced and motd 2 advisories nsr handbrake low readings and brake pipes rusting. They also changed oil pump chain/tensioner, said lucky i did 1 pulley badly worn and chewing thru chain. Think car dodged a bullet there. :)

Another A2 on the road for another year :)
Was the oil pump chain work expensive? It's one I'd also have to pay to get done. What mileage are you on?

It's possible to do almost anything with the seats! I've :-
(1) I've retro-fitted lumbar [twice]
(2) Retro fitted electric heating [twice]
(3) Swapped drivers side base cover for the passenger side (to balance the wear)
(4) Changed the sports-seat bases for SE bases (so getting rid of the raised squabs)
I now have hybrid and unique seats ..... sport top/SE base!
I have all the components to change-over the upper seat components from driver to passenger. I've got two additional air-bag holders/covers, but that's a job for the future! I really like working with those seats!

David, out of interest were you able to swap the foam bases complete with the plastic trays that they sit in as one unit, or did you have to take the covers off? When I originally tried this on the breaker's seats, I found the six screws holding the tray to the crossbar at the front, no problems there. But at the back, when I tried the two splined bolts at the sides of the tray, they were incredibly stiff, and when they finally rotated I think it was only that whatever they fasten to is now free to rotate on the inside of the tray.

Car currently on 125k oil pump chain/tensioner and pulley kit(febi) £142. 6.5 hrs labour £280. Here's what they found. The tensioner wasn't too badly worn. But the chain was showing signs of wear due to a tooth missing on pulley.

Yikes

Thanks for the info Steve, it's the labour charge that's going to be the biggy for me @ £60+VAT per hour. One to think over, as I'm 25k behind you.

You can buy the kit on fleabay. It fits all tdi models and as said before the febi kit is vw audi with part number ground off. I would definitely have it done. Its a possible engine killer if it fails.
