Today I.....

Today (well, actually over the last three days) I...

Fitted a double-DIN dash, mk2 RNS-E SatNav, SDS voice control, flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel and Audi Bluetooth phone integration.
On separate cars, I also exchanged two faulty CCCUs and did a cruise control retrofit.

Cheers,

Nice clean condition. I see you are plagued with graffiti in Lithuania like we are in the UK, or should I call it urban art ;) :(

Today I put my newly refurbished (for the second time since I got them with the car) original Audi 9 spoke alloys on with my new winter tyres Nexen Winguard sport 215/40/17. (there was a snow flurry where I live yesterday - brrrr)

I also noticed that the driver side, side indicator cover was hanging off, because of a broken plastic tab. I put it back on with a couple of strips of double sided foam tape. Not exactly straight but I will see how long this lasts.

My summer wheels are looking a bit shabby but I am reluctant to spend more money getting them refurbished, what do you think?

The side indicator tabs do have a habit of breaking but new units as a whole are not too expensive to buy.

Well today's the day i loose my A2 for a week. It's going into my local vw/audi specialist to have
An oil and filter service
An oil pump chain tensioner and pulley change
And finally an Mot.
Luckily I'm on hols for week and have use of another car.

The wheels are quite rare and are called “Qt” wheels they were a dealer optional extra. So probably worth getting refinished. The chrome outer ring can be removed if heavily damaged to reveal a hopefully undamaged edge. They are held on with silicone.
We have had a couple of sets of these both new from dealers - one set went when I sold my castle red Fsi the other set was on vonnies white sport tdi but is now sitting in the conservatory and unsure what to do with them.
Nice to see castle red a2’s Lovely colour. Cheers mike

I would also have these refurbed, lovely looking wheels(IMO). But i would go for a modern look on them. Along the same lines as the newer audi wheels.

I was thinking about a two tone, bronze spokes (to go with the castle red car) and silver rim, but thought that was just a bit too "bling" (a word that my daughter used when I first got them). ;)
Now I envisage a three tone, gunmetal centre, bronze spokes and silver rim.
Or bronze centre, gunmetal spokes and silver rim?
I just must get mock-ups done in a photo editor to see what that would look like now. :)

"quite rare" eh... worth a refurb then.
"Qt" - I know that as a software development platform, but OK from now on they are my 'cutie' wheels. ;)

I did get them from a dealer but at what I thought was a good price at the time. That was before I knew that I could get the originals 're-rounded' as they were quite dented and hard to balance after a while driving them up and down a farm track every day. So I just ended up using one set as Summer wheels and one set as Winter wheels after that. I once asked if the Qts needed 're-rounded' and was told that was a better term than the refurbisher used - they used 'squared up' which just sounded wrong.

I was hoping that the "chrome" rims could be polished up as part of the refurb. They are a little scratched but not really dented. I thought that they would be stainless steel though and be able to be polished up OK, no?

Thanks for the encouragement, but my garage will really wonder why I want to spend probably more than the car is worth on wheels again.

"Castle red" - I always call it bronze as that is how it was sold to me. ;)

yesterday I fitted by TT gear knob and gaiter with aluminium retaining ring, its a great match for the TT steering wheel, really improves the A2 interior. Only slight problem in the 1 Deg C temp this morning the gear knob was rather (VERY) cold to the hand, certainly prevent you resting your hand on the gear lever (not that I ever do that :))

There are companies who re-chrome any parts you want. I know of one in Gosport, Hampshire.

Hi - they may be stainless as mine are scuffed also but don’t show any rust forming - if chrome surely they would rust almost immediately as it is a very thin coating
Cheers Dave

I have just hit a problem with 7zap. I want the part number of 16 and 19 but the list stops short.

https://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+a2/a2/2003-248/6/615-615060/

Is this a flaw in my iPad interface or if not any suggestions for a remedy?

Andy

That's an issue I have seen from the parts database from time to time. Obsolete parts disappear from the list so they are in the diagram but that number is not in the parts grid. The rear disc brake set up on the A2 is pretty much the same as the contemporary VW Polo and that parts list is also missing the parts you mentioned.
