Today I.....

Rather than remove the "air bag" side guard badges (which risked damage as they are plastic welded on)....today i spray painted the interior pillars with black plasticote over the swing grey and they look quite good.

I had all break lights fail yesterday, so after reading advice on here. I decided to swap the break switch (took the one of recently sorned fsi) it was a little critter to remove (twice two vehicles) and found as has previously been mentioned, easier to remove heat direction pipe(only held on with one screw. All’s well now, car better with lights than without.

Still, better if you have small hands…. mine are like shovels😳

Glad its working for you Dave. :)

You'll find it hard to read the date code, along with the part number. Best take a pic then zoom the pic. Good luck.
Mac.

That looks really good👍
Since you have a Red Storm, is the plasticcote okay for the arches?

Last couple of days, I have:
  • Replaced the 'Dog Bone' engine/gearbox mount (with the Polo/Lupu/Fabia part here) as there was too much engine movement
  • Replaced the Oil Separator as it was leaking
  • Removed, cleaned and lubed the starter motor to fix a 'Screeching' motor
I also took the opportunity to check the air filter while I was down there.

Once again, thanks to the forum for all the 'how to' guides, makes the job easier and cheaper.👍

However, while I was down there, found a broken flexi and rattly exhaust, need a new one.... 😲

Hello Dave,

A great outcome there. Looks fantastic Sir. The SideGuard is a nice addition for self satisfaction knowing you’ve done as much as possible for personal safety should something go wrong.

Getting the Airbag emblems looking perfect is of course the only way of identifying that any A2 has them fitted. I have toyed with the idea of adding the Airbag emblems to the A pillars like later Audi but not ventured to that extreme yet. Maybe one day.

Kind regards,

Tom

Today I..... finally managed to replace the rusted screw on my front number plate with a stainless one:

It's bugged me for a very long time, but I had to have the bumper off to replace the intercooler today, which meant I could remove the screw from behind. Blowing intercooler replaced too!

Today I gave the OpenSky its first service in my ownership with a Moly Silicon lubricant in the tracks and a German ‘pflef’ rubber treatment on all of the rubber seals.Tricky to get in everywhere but I think I did a pretty good job with my girly hands.

Fingers crossed that will keep it going and remove some of the anxiety of opening it on these warm summer nights.🤞

Once done I still had a few more minutes free so I rubbed another treatment of ‘Leather Honey’ into the front seats to see if I can get soften them up a bit more.

Removed the sill covers. One is toast the other is a maybe to fix. Removing them is a PITA. It appears impossible to remove the 4 top cover strips without breaking a lot of the fixing tabs.
Finished fixing the second horn.

Agreed on the breaking the tabs on the covers but the covers go back in place and a thin bead of black stikall (toolstation) does a great job of holding the covers in place. If the cover need to come off in the future running a blade between the the slight gap will tie the stikall easily

So I managed to change front strut bushings and bearings ...

I went smooth - about an hour for each side.

I was quite amazed that OEM front shocks were made by VIKA (always though OEM were Sachs).

There is no noticeable difference after this change ...

I only have a single-tone horn. Is this standard? If not, then it will need fixing! If so, how did you do yours please? :)

Yep single is standard. I fitted a second Bosch two tone (low, I think) beneath the OS headlight, spliced into the wiring loom. Sounds much more authoritative now!
plenty available on fleebay
