Today I.....

Set a few A2 personal records.

Today drove our A2 the furthest ever in one journey. Actually it’s quite unremarkable as we usually use larger cars for long journeys; 325 miles. I just wanted to test all the recent repairs, no problems ?

Crikey, longest journey in 15 years  I drove nearly that far in Baby Boomer after collecting him when I bought him ;)

Seriously though, really glad that you're still enjoying it after all these years - I've only been in membership really for just over 18 months, and I'm more than happy with everything.

Didn't realise my headlights were that bad. A quick swap out makes the car look years younger. Well almost

Today I total rebuild the front end of my sons A2....

Following his valiant efforts, the roads now have one less V60 estate slowing down the traffic!

Fairly hard work , but also learnt how to get to the intercooler , and a/c condenser coil.

The most amazing part of this , was how easy it all came apart, and springed back into shape once crash beam was removed

Parts fitted

Intercooler
Bonnet
Upper bumper support
Crash beam
Engine tray
Adjusted the wings back
Moved front panel
New headlights
New horn
Lots of small bits

I obtained the whole front end off a engine failed A2 , and the yard allowed me remove all parts , and more for use , learnt a lot during this process

I have included a few photos showing the insides of th wings . This is for information and notes , those bits don’t see the light of day so I thought it was usefully to add

So the 2005 tdi lives to fight again !!!

Would say this requires a fair amount of skills , and a large range of tools , it’s not for the Sunday morning folks .....

very noticeable, quite amazing how a set of crystal clear head lights can take years of a car. However don't dump the old ones, a rub with 1000 grit wet and dry in warm soapy water will remove the yellowing and then a few coats of 2K clear lacquer will keep them clear for years.
I also followed @A2Steve lead and added a little black paint to the lacquer to give a tinted glass. I run 55watt HID's in projectors so the slight lose of light is not an issue for me.

Today I had 2 more Toyo 185/50 16V Proxy fitted. Had them before and saw no reason to change. £72 each fitted.

Then headed to Heathrow. With a 2 year service done on Monday it was a very pleasant ride cruising along at 60-70 up the A303 & M3.

Today me and the legend which is Tom (@timmus) perform 'cabriolet surgery' to my A2 or put another way we swapped out the brokenSky for my fully refurbished OSS.
The date has been arranged for some weeks, trying to nail Tom down to a date is difficult as he is rather popular, so even though the weather did its best to prevent converting my A2 into a cabriolet, one pop up gazebo latter and A2 under 'cover' the head lining was removed, brokensky unbolted and Tom getting his gym workout leg-pressing the brokensky out. Some pushing and thrutching latter and the brokensky was released from the car and removed. Quick cleanup of the roof area and the replacement OSS was in place and aligned and bolted up. At this point in proceeding the rain stopped. Headlining back in and all back together.
I have actually found a part of the A2 which Tom does not like, these being the D pillar trims, they have two metal clips that are challenging to get too and are SOOOOOO over engineered, I think one in particular took a dislike to Tom and was refusing to go back into place (it did after some time and swearing)
The end result is a super smoothly operating OSS and a car that does not look like it was ever taken to pieces

I'm one happy A2 owner, thank a million for the help today @timmus, really really appreciated
Cheers,
Paul

Today.... I changed the door strap on my sons £220 Tdi hardest part of this job is getting the 2 screws back in the door handle.

makes a big difference, now you need one of my plastic trim covers to fit over the two rivets to finish it off and stop the water ingress into the rivet/pivot pins. keep a little oil on the pivot pins every few months to prevent wear in the pins and bushes

cheers,

I certainly do, the fan type (early ones) are crap, the newer 2 jet ones are a vast improvement. You need the plastic scuttle panel as well to change the nozzles as the Fan ones are oblong and the latter 2 jet ones are oval

I have the later type on ours but find it extremely frustrating to maintain the correct spray angle. You can set correctly then with all this hot weather the plastic scuttle panel expands/moves in this heat and puts the angle out again. Anyone else noticed this?
