returned to my part of Scotland from Tavistock .. 8h41 minutes door to door with 3 10-15 minute stops for fuel, food, and a bit of rest. PTW 6th used from the A30 to M5 junction in Devon to Tebay barring the climb running up to Gordano before Bristol and then eventually after Tebay services where I used 5th until I got to Shap summit, and again north of there apart from Beattock. Was surprised to note that external air temp around 4am by Birmingham was 18 degrees - where the steeper gradients on the M5 were starting to get the coolant temp needle up to 95 or so (I've never seen the needle above 90 degrees previously) and oil temperatures up to 102 degrees (colour DIS). You really notice 800rpm less for a good long while at a time due to lower fatigue overall. An A2 is not a Bentley, but for a near 20-year-old small car the refinement is pretty incredible.
