Ummm yeah!!! Good times

Frustrating afternoon today - we’ve got builders / garden contractors in and they’d kindly left a one tonne bag of a late chippings blocking one of the double doors into the workshop, meaning I’ve just had to change Audrey’s oil in the pi**ing rain.

All done, I then went to change the now long-dead camshaft position sensor - finally worked out where it is and how to get the cam cover off, only to find if got a crankshaft position sensor, not a camshaft position sensor (part number is 045957147C instead of the correct part which has the same part number but a B instead of the C!).

To top it all off, when attempting to put it back together having ordered the correct part), I’ve just dropped the damn bolt for the sensor down the lower cambelt cover!!!!

Any tips for getting that off please gratefully received? Sorry for the rant - feeling low on mojo and the rain is so hard now I’m going to have to leave it for the evening and come back to it tomorrow.

Can you get to it with a telescopic rod with a magnetic end?

That would be my go to tool as well. I have a selection of them some of which I made myself using old aerials from radios etc and small neodymium magnets

If you can see the bolt even using an endoscopy then you should be able to retrieve it. Goes without saying DO NOT attempt to rotate the engine at all for fear of both locking the bolt in place and /or damaging the belt

Best of luck and happy hunting

Yep rest assured the key will not be turned until the bolt is safely back in place holding the duff sensor in!!

Thanks all - had half a bottle of lovely NZ sauv blanc with dinner and feeling much better, funnily enough!!!

Just to reinforce the correct information you have already received...

A magnet on a rod but not on a string or mechanical fingers.

Isn't it just great that Sods Law always hits when you are already having a bad time.

Hind sight ( or warning to others ) plug up gaps with clean rag and ensure removed afterwards.

Fitted newly coloured armrest, just need to get the TT seats fitted once I have some brackets...

Put on the comfort wheels and a smooth service flap.

(Just in case you are wondering the seat on the right is the finished colour)

Recently fitted my TT seats very happy with them but need to sort wiring for heated elements.

Is someone making the brackets now?

Fantastic. I must say - living as I do in the South of England - it comes as a great shock to see a picture of a road with so few cars on it 🤣
Pretty much anywhere in the UK it would be a shock, over an hour to get into Preston on Saturday, 15 miles away.

I selected a moment with less cars to pick up the phone and take i quick pic. But other than that we probably have less cars on the road in northern sweden than in the UK in general as it is much sparsely populated. That and rush hour hadn´t started either.

Today I called on ‘2work‘, collected a set of lovely leather seats and benefitted from his knowledge to fettle a few little problems,
cheers Tom 👍
Robert.
Evening Robert,

Hope the return leg was kind to you. Great to see you again.

Think we could have chatted all evening socialising possible solutions to faults. Enjoy your new to you A2, it is very nice and seems a good one.

Look forward to when you’re next in the neighbourhood.

Kind regards,

Tom

Update to this - I've found my slim telescoping magnet but with half an hour of very blind poking around I only once managed to snag the bolt onto the end - only for it to get stuck between the engine mount and the belt upon withdrawal and fall down into the lower cam cover somewhere on top of the belt on its lower run (I think)....

I'll study a diagram of the cambelt's path and try again but really the engine mount is in the way so I can't see anything down there.
