Today I.....

Today I drove my recently acquired 1.4 BHC a 165 mile journey to collect a towbar with removable hitch - I've been looking for sometime and considered the new ones on eBay, but fortunately this one turned up before I took that step. Now it joins the list of jobs to do...(I have wanted a towbar for my AUA, but it isn't homologated for a trailer (being a very early one), and Audi haven't been able to confirm that it would be covered retrospectively).

Today I...

Decided I want original cup holders in my car (after all) as both of mine broke down and there currently are just 2 holes in the panel.
If someone has them or something compatible in stock, I'd like a PM. :)

As an aside, I've been using Calix engine heater more and more recently - and even just 90 minutes with this plugged in starts the engine off at 50 degrees and it gradually warms up from there. I say this not because it I think it makes a major difference to consumption (it would on short journeys though), but because of all the recent talk of slow / incomplete diesel warm-up: I thought the coolant temp would bleed off because the oil is cold, but this appears not to happen, interestingly.
Not sure where the calix one is looped into the coolant system but the DEFA one is fitted below the oil cooler and filter housing, I would expect that it can still warm up a reasonable amount of the oil. I always found this housing to get warm when running the electric heater.

Yes both systems are very similar (I only went for Calix as that was what I could source easily at time time), however the oil temp when I switch on is generally not more than a few degrees hotter than ambient temperature once the engine has been started and run for a moment. It seems the oil is slow to warm up and slow to lose heat - which is I guess why it's used in certain types of electric radiators.

A year ago today this little beauty joined our family 😀

Today I swapped over the drivers doors and locks on the FSI. Door looks great, lock works, but not much resistance in the door handle. Feels loose. So a bit of investigation work needed.

Today I took some time to strip and clean up the dashboard I have ready to go into Diane.
Still building up the courage to spend a weekend getting the swap done :)

Before and after shots attached.

Glad to see you've got a black one to go in at last. I know the objective was the double-DIN functionality, but I never did think the Jive coloured one went with the rest of your interior.

Today I rolled back the years (all 49 of them) to being a 16 year old apprentice by cutting all of the parts required to make the brackets to fit MK1 TT seats out of 40 x 8mm flat bar with a hacksaw and plenty of elbow grease 😁, and didn't brake a blade. 👍
Might regret it tomorrow though. 🤣
